Question Help got new cd player and now my speedometer wont work

i have a 1996 monte LS which came with a stock cd player but wouldn't play burnt cds so i bought a cheep jensen cd player and a wiring harness. But when i was hooking it up i noticed that i had some wires that couldn't go in to the new cd player. So i just left them. When i hooked everything else up and went to work i noticed that my speedometer wasn't working then i started hitting buttons and turned the cd player off and the speedometer worked.

Does any one know why this happened?

There is a wire in the factory radio harness that is tied into the bcm, if it touches ground while the car is on it can do damge to the bcm and it can completly fry it out. If you have unused wires in the harness you bought, make sure you tape the ends with electrical tape....very imortant to use good electrical tape and not any other kind of tape.

I have the same problem in my 98 monte carlo Ls. I read the post on so i taped all of my wires and it still doesn't work. But as soon as I unplug the wire harness from my cd player....it works... I have installed many cd players in other cars, and I've never seen something like this. if anyone can give me some help it would be much appreciated. thanks

The automatic volume control wires in the harness can cause speedo problems. Make sure these are not connected to anything. I'm not sure which ones offhand - possibly green. Look up the schematic in Haynes or some othter source and it will tell.
