Gauge install probems help please

okay so i just got my guage and i have a gauge that records boost and vacuum from autometer... I did not get my tee fitting with it, and i dont know if i was supposed to...the problem i have is...if i tap into the fuel pressure regulator, i will not have vacuum, and this, according to many dsmers, is the best line to tap into for the most acurracy. So if i tap in there, will my boost gauge work as effectively or will it have problems...do i need that vacumm?

Also, the gauge has like three inches of wiring for the light, can i just use any other wiring to spice into it or does it have to be special lighting?

Thanks in advance guys!

my car is a gst and my mods are intake, filter, uicp, 1g bov, and soon to be cat back

Re: Gauge install probems help please

yeah you wanna tee the boost line into the fuel pressure solenoid hose....i just went to autozone and bought a little box of plastic tee's...found which one fits perfect and used that one and i have vacuum and boost readings that work from this line tap.....also i think in the instructions from autometer, it specifies to use 18gauge wire i think if you need more wire....almost positive it said 18gauge, but i don't think it really matters. once you get it all hooked up, you'll know if it's working correct if you get both vacuum and boost readings.

Re: Gauge install probems help please

there is a hose that comes off of the intake manifold and goes to the fuel pressure regulator... thats where I hooked mine up with a T... or go off of the line going to the BOV...either has same reading potential right off of the intake manifold.
As for the wiring... find the two wires for the dash or even go off of the pos cigarette lighter lead and ground to the chassis. Of course you'll need to extend the current wiring...
I believe there is a write up on www.VFAQ.com
Lots of info there....

Yes, this is the best/easiest place to tap the bov line IMO. As you look at the car from the front, it is a hose coming straight up off of the right side of the intake manifold.

Yea thanks a lot guys! Really helpful... i got everything working...the only problem i have now is that when i have the car at idle the vacuum reads like approximately 17 and when i flloor thing it hits around 16 psi....keep in mind i have no MBC, but i do have the BCS removal (free mod), and the mods that i have listed above...when im driving with low throttle i dont even go pass the 0 psi marking...is this normal? I only pass it when i floor it....

Cool man thanks, but why is my gauge reading at like 16 and close to 17 psi....is it boost creep? I thought you only get boost creep when you open up the exhaust restriciton...
