Tire selection/opinion

Got my Venture with the 3 spoke, 5 point star 15" aluminum wheels with Firestone FR680 tires. Absolutely hated the tires. Lots of spin on wet roads and when trying to get moving on steeper hills as well as squealing if going more than about 5km/h over the posted limit around any corner. Wheels were ok but looked a little hub-cappish for my liking.

Recently got a set of American Racing 5 spoke alloy wheels (16x6.5) from a friend with Bridgestone Turanza tires installed. What a difference! They are MUCH quieter, I actually have traction now and (in my opinion), the body roll going around corners is reduced by about 50%. Makes a big difference in the driveability. Only real downside is that the wife liked the soft ride from the original tires and has been complaining about the 'bumpiness" of the new rubber. Basically, she can feel the road now and doesn't want to ...

I'm not plugging the Bridgestones specifically, just noting how much difference a better tire can make to the handing of these vans. The stock Firestones are single ply sidewalls and 2 ply treads which make them very flexible but not very good performers. Moving to any decent quality T rated, multi-ply tire would make a difference I'm sure.

Besides, the lower profile, wider tires on the wheels makes the ol' family hauler look a little more aggressive.
