Complete Big Block (3 pics)

Hey guys. I know this isn't exactly a street racing story, but this engine is mainly going to be used for street racing so I figure its all relevant. For about the past month I have been doing a big block conversion in my 71 Nova. Ive got the tranny and all in and I figured I would share some pictures of the motor (which I completely finished today). I know its not 100% accurate, but according to Desktop Dyno this motor is going to make in the 520-535 horsepower range with close to 570 ft/lbs of torque. I have alot of money invested in everything behind the motor, so power loss through the drivetrain should be minimal. Ill get some more pics of the install up soon, and some racing stories up after that. Well here are the pics:








I plan on changing the valve covers out, but thats basically the complete motor (minus carb/msd/etc.)

Nice motor, How many CI is it?. Ya i have a 1972 nova SS and i got the motor for it a bit ago, it a 396 CI (technically 402 since it is .030 over) with port and polished heads. Do you have subframe connectors because anything above 500 ft/lbs of torque will most likely twist or tweak the chasis. Have fun with the new motor.

You know what would look nice sitting on there? A weiand 6-71 supercharger

Ya, its all set up well. I have comp engineering subframe connectors and comp engineering traction bars (use to be lakewood traction bars but the comp ones are 100% better) along with qa1 shocks all the way around. I realize its not much of one already, but a supercharger would kill any "street car/sleeper" look the car would have.

There is an event called "cruising the coast" inwhich around five thousand classic cars from every state in the country get together, and over a 5-6 day period drive along the gulf coast in Mississippi. It happens around October 5-10. Its a long shot but I hope to have it all complete by that time. Thanks for your interest.

There is a link to cruising the coast. It costs nothing to just ride along with all the other cars, but If you want to be involved in the raffles and things like that theres a fee. (Paying the fee gets you a shirt along with a few other things and makes you able to win the raffle for the car mentioned on the site). Last year there were close to 5 thousand registered vehicles, and countless unregistered vehicles. The swap meet is worth the trip.

I would agree z28josh, a supercharger would be great on that beast but I can understand your desire to keep it looking streetable...congrats on finishing it though...that is gonna be a great ride

Man I might enter in the raffle. Know where I can or how I do it? Doesn't really say. We usually just cruise and go check out the cars. They have meets at the harbor in Long Beach and at the Grand in Gulfport a lot. Sometimes that K-Mart parking center. Where's the swap meet at?

Oh sorry to double post but what do they consider classic? Maybe an old 70's mini cooper?

Thanks for all the interest guys and the nice comments. The swap meet is at the "Coast Coliseum". As far as "classic", it can be anything from an old 32 ford to a Cobra to a new Corvette. It just all depends on what you want to drive.
