Question ****help****

94 escort lx 1.9. going down the road, the car shut off. the gas tank got busted. i belive the car shut off because of the lack of gas. i got a new tank and filled her up, the car trys to start but it just turns over again and again. the fuel pump is working. i hear it very strong. i just put a new battery and alternator one lessthen a month ago. ive tryed jumping it off too make sure it was getting enough power. but nothing. what i am wondering is does the car have an enersha switch. (<- mis spelled) if so where exactly is it located. i know prob in trunk. my 95 mustang had a blow out and some how the enersha switch got tripped and it acted the same way. so if anyone can help in any way i would appreciate it.

Re: ****help****

its in the trunk. I think the right side, there might be a little panel that you have to take off.

i checked the enersha switch its fine. i see though that when i am trying to start the car , while im holding the key on to start it, there is a light that comes on beside the check engine light that says "fuel shutoff" i dont know what that means. any body got a clue. the check engine light is on at all times, the fuel shutoff light comes one while trying to start the car. if any ones can help me please let me know what you think. this is my girls car and she is driving mine until it gets fixed so.....

Re: ****help****

mkae sure the inertia switch is pushed IN. If it's popped out, then it's cutoff. But if you can hear the pump, then it should be fine.

Re: ****help****

Sounds like it may be the timing belt. The fuel shut off light is supposed to come on just before the ignition turns over. Does it shut off after the car is started? it should. The same thing happened to my car about a month ago. Ithought it was the fuel pump or that maybe the fuel cutoff swich jumped, but everything was fine. I suggest getting the timing belt looked at!
