Dogbone motor mount interchangability?
Does anyone know if the generation 3 4-cylinder dogbone mount can be used on a generation 4 4-cylinder? Both are 5SFE engines. I would like to stiffen up the mount on my wife's 98. I know some people have taken the generation 4 dogbone mount and filled it's holes with polyurethane. I can get an extra generation 3 mount pretty cheap.
Thanks in advance for your responses. Mike |

Re: Dogbone motor mount interchangability?
I bet they are interchangable. Buy the 3rd gen mount with the understanding you can return it if it isn't the right one. Then compare the two mounts in every possible dimension. If you can't see any difference in the size of the mount, they are probably interchangable.

Re: Dogbone motor mount interchangability?
Brian,
That's what I was thinking. I ordered the mount already. A friend get's these aftermarket parts so cheap it wouldn't even be worth returning. The gas would cost more. Only problem is, the place had 2 mounts in their catalog both marked 92-96 Camry. He actually ordered both of them for me without asking the difference or if the catalog was wrong and one was for a 92-96 and the other for a 97-01 . I will probably get them late next week. I have been wanting to stiffen up that mount on the 98 for some time. Sometimes I can see near metal to metal contact on lateral movement after some hard cornering. I talked to Toyota corporate in California about this around 6 months ago. My take on what they told me is that they had such vibration problems on the generation 3 5SFE engine, that they made the generation 4 5SFE mount with much less and softer rubber to try to eliminate this problem. Their idea was to have less of the vibrations transferred in to the passenger compartment. Engineers can do some pretty strange things at times. LOL. Mike Thanks for the suggestion. Mike |
