Visit to the junkyard

Went to the junkyard today, because one of my taillight housings (holds the bulb) rusted out and i needed a new one. Good thing accords use the same housings, i found a ton! I bought 9 of em, each with working bulbs and no rust. I found some 4-door civic lx's that were practically untouched with the power windows, etc (took the fuse cover off of one). Don't really need anything else from there at the moment, but what should i get next time i go? Like, whats the most common things to go wrong with our old 4g4ds, so i can go and get replacements now before the parts are gone.

Re: Visit to the junkyard

Did the civic's have the engine in them cause then you could get some parts off the engine.

I know this might sound like a little thing to replace but the seal around the dist. cap needs to be replaced. Every 4g engine I see has the seal being broken or cracked. It's good to replace cause moisture won't get in there.

Also, get that center taillight piece you need.

Re: Visit to the junkyard

Dist. seal - good idea

Steering Knuckles - i don't even know what those are lol. tell me how to get em and i'll retrieve em for ya

Center Piece - every one i saw was either busted or had the same problem with it going outward in the middle like it does. Also, the chrome trim has the same prob, peels and cracks.

I'm definitely going to look through engine parts next time i go, when i have more time to search through everything. However, didn't see any civic ex's, all the civics i saw had the d15 i believe, so don't know whats interchangeable between then 15 and the 16.

Re: Visit to the junkyard

wanna get me a head from a 1989 Civic LX? The timing skipped, and I believe the valves are bent. I aligned the timing, but its still not starting.

Like what kind a center piece u talkin about. The piece that goes around the e-brake, the radio or the rare piece that goes between the shifter and radio that connects both? Cause if it's the rare piece, then I will certianly ask you to get if for me.

Re: Visit to the junkyard

outta town till the 3rd or so, but when i find out i'll post another thread. I did see a taillight in perfect condition, was tempted to take it myself

centerpiece is the part on the back of the car, like the taillight thing

engine? i don't think they had any decent engines there, and the ones they did have either have parts missing or are broken
