squeak when letting off gas

I got a manual 95 gsx. Whenever I hit the gas lightly or normal I don't hear anything, but whenever I punch it a bit, then let off the gas to shift something squeaks. It only seems to do it at higher RPMs and I've definately narrowed it down to when I let off the gas. It also only does it while in forward gear (1-3 mostly, not sure about 4. Probably never been going fast enough). Has anyone ever heard of this happening before?

I'm relatively new to manual cars too, so it might be something I'm doing. I have no idea. It doesn't sound natural though. I'd like to fix it myself if at all possible.

Joe

please dont tell me you mean the bov! Is the sound like "vroooooom"" , when you accelerate, and then when you shift it sounds like "pssssstttttt"?

Re: squeak when letting off gas

Lol...if it's the 2g stock bov, I would bet that is what he's talking about. When you punch the gas on a turbo car, your turbine turning pressurizes the intake air (that's why we call it "psi"). The noise you hear is just your bov venting intake air. Welcome to AF.

told you I know nothing are they all that noisy? It sounds awful loud to me from inside the car.

BTW, it is a really loud "squeak", similar to the last post on this guy's thread, so I'm assuming it is the BOV. I knew about them, I just assumed they were quiet.

Re: squeak when letting off gas

1. The people in that thread you linked to must be the stupidest people in the world. Every one of them had a turbo on their car.

2. I thought the 2g bov would be pretty silent, especially compared to aftermarket ones. I thought it was made that way so that people dont get scared.... *cough cough* unless your venting to atmosphere.

3. Those bov sound clips sounded pretty weird. Is that really what they sound like from inside the car? Or were they just venting to at.?

4. : )

I listened to all the BOVs, and it actually does sound most like the last one on the sound clips list on your second link. (HKS SSQV take off MR2T MP3)

Evidently, the 2g BOVs are really loud. I noticed the thing's also a piece of crap plastic. That's gonna have to be replaced when I get some money. That would change the sound too, right?

Shh, I wasn't scared. Just stupid Anyway, you can't really hear it as much with the windows up. Windows down though, and it's very noticeable. Thanks for the links joematthews.

Re: squeak when letting off gas

Don't worry, the day after I got my spyder I heard the same noise and had no idea what it was. I had absolutely no experience with a turbo car (I had never even been in one). I heard this noise that sounded like someone stepping on a sparrow, so I called the dealer and asked if it was something to do with the turbo or a problem with the car. The guy said that he wasn't sure and I would have to come in and pay the $75 diagnostic fee to find out, Fuck that! I called another dealer and asked them the same question, they told me it was normal and that it was the BOV. He then took the time to explain to me what the BOV was there for and what was happening to produce that sound. Just goes to show that you should always get a 2nd opinion. Don't feel bad, just use this as a motivation to learn more about your car!

By the way, enjoy the AWD turbo!!!!
