Vacuum Test
Ok this is a dumb question, but I have done a compression test on my 89 Chevy C1500 and they were all around 100/150 which was perfect. Now I want to do a vacuum test on it, but every time I tried I couldn't get it to work. Anybody have directions or a website that could show me?
I want to do the test because it bogs (I don't know what to call it, but it seems to totally die, as in sounds like it shuts off, if I gun it, like it skips a power stroke or something) more than a fat lady running to the pisser from a stop, and from slow or idle if I give it more than 1/2 gas. It will ocassionaly (as in most of the time) not seem to rev up right when I try to go from a stop sign. I start going and it seems like the revs sit at a certain spot for like 3 seconds then I have to floor it and 2 seconds after that it will either downshift and go, or it will just shoot the revs up high on the current gear. I replaced my cap and rotor, and put in new plugs and my uncle and I totally took it apart and put in new gaskets and cleaned it up like 8 months ago when I baught it. Any help PLZZZZ!?

I guess so. Thats really the only thing I can think of that would be the problem. My timing is off a little, but not bad enough to cause a stroke miss or kink out or whatever. I did the compression test and it came out almost perfect. Re-gaped the plugs and got a new cap and rotor with old new wires. (Never used or opend the box before) I replaced the PCV valve...A vacuum test is really all I have left to check it with. Oh, and sorry to be a nitpicky weiner, but I have a chart that shows what the readings from the vacuum gauge means, and diagrams and all like from that site, it's just the test in general I can't figure out how to do!
I feel retarded asking because I should know how but I just can't get it to work. I put it into one of the throttle body Constant pressure thingys, but I think it's either the IAC or some of the valve cover hosing I made causing the problem. I can't really get the IAC port to not leak, even when I take it out and jam towels or/and my fingers in it while I test. I will talke a picture of my engine with the air cleaner off and stuff to show you the hosing I had to do when I ordered cheap, cheezy valve covers that weren't even symetrical when my dad comes back with the camera monday. BTW, I can't find a vacuum tester for FI engines anywhere around where I live. I tried Target, Wal Mart, Fleetfarm, Checker, and Pep Boys...Checker was the only place that had one and it was $66 or something. I heard from my shop teacher that you can get them for $12 at Tools for Less or something but I don't know of one around here. Any suggestions on where to find one so I can just do the test at my house myself? Thanks for the help and info though, I will be so happy once I fix this problem.

Re: Vacuum Test
Plug the sucker into the PCV valve hookup at the front of the throttle body.
