16v head swap?

I just got an 86 GTI. 8v head. I know a guy who has a ported and polished 16v head with cams just sitting in his garage, Can I swap out the head fairly easily or should I just try to find a 2.0 16v and stick it in there? I want to stay away from turbo's, I got a 97 a4 1.8t for that. Like to go all motor with this one. Can anyone point me to a good reference area for GTI motor swaps. Any advice ya'll might have is appreciated. I don't really know crap about older V-dubs.

Re: 16v head swap?

8V pistons are different than the 16V, also the 16V block has dowel pins that fit into the head that the 8V doesn't have. Get a complete engine if you want the 16V
