Unhappy No Intake Filter

A few days ago while driving to work on the highway I felt something big hit the bumper but I thought it was some road debris so i ignored it. I checked around the car when I got to work and everything seemed ok so i ingnored it. This morning the car started kind of rough so I decided to pop the hood. Everything seemed normal except for the fact that my air intake had no filter on the end of it. That big noise i had heard was my air intake filter falling off. My concern now is that i drove about 3 or 4 days to and from work with no air filter on the intake. Is my engine now ruined in any way?? I drive the car pretty hard since I drive on the highway every day.

Re: No Intake Filter

I'm gonna take drdisque's advice and do an oil change a.s.a.p and put a new filter on. But if i feel that the car is running wierd i'm gonna have to have someone check the engine. I have another question though. I've only been driving this eclise for two months. I didn't get a chance to ask the previous owner what kind of oil he used. I know synthetic is the best but I also know that if you put a different oil in an engine it will start running bad. The car has 60,000 miles. Any advice??

Re: No Intake Filter

You can use synthetic or regular as long as you are not breaking in the motor. Use which ever one you plan to use while you own the car. Odds are everything is ok unless you drive on really dusty roads. If the car is turbo, check the compressor wheel for damage. If anything went in the intake pipe you'll know it. If its NT, a compression test might be good for peace of mind.

Re: No Intake Filter

Thanks for the help gsxracer. I'm gonna go ahead and use synthetic. But i'm gonna do some checking around cause I heard that if an engine has been running on one type of all for a long time and then you switch it, your engine will start running bad. Hopefully the previous owner of my GS used synthetic and not regular.
