my day at the shop + body shops

ok. this morning on my day off from school... i took my car to tire country. (auto shop my mom's boyfriend owns).

we changed my oil... fixed my leaky tire. there was a nail in it. and we had to drain all the puncture seal out.

my exhaust had a loose bracket and there was a bolt that was rattling and that was that.. but it is still rattling i gotta check it out soon too.

tomorrow i'm probably installing my autometer gauges and pod.

i went to wayne's auto body and he gave me an estimate of $1100 to paint/install my parts. he said it'd be $450 to paint it for me if i installed it... another $325 to fix the key mark someone made on my car. its gonna be more though if my paint is a 3 stage pearl but i have no idea.

after that i went to slater's auto-body and he gave me a $1500 estimate to paint and install the parts. he also said he'd have to put it on the frame machine because my hood has no room on one side, and a big gap on the other. so he said my nose was proabably bent or some shit. but i bet/hope it's just the hinges out of whack.

my ex girlfriend somehow got me an estimate of $400 to fix everything. i think this is BS if i want a good job done. $30 to fix the key scratch... and that will be included in the $400 to fix the front. i can't trust that shit.

i'm probably going to go with wayne's auto body. i can trust his work and chances are i'll get a good job done. slater's is a very small shop and doesn't seem right to me. but he knew what he was talking about. he told me someone rearended my car before because he ran his hand over the rear pillar and was able to tell. i can't tell. but whatever.

i'm gonna talk to wayne again and see if i really have to get it on the frame machine. theres a lot of shit attached to my upper front bulkhead so too much work to fix... labor is crazy. i might just have wayne paint the parts and i'll install it myself. but first i wanna see if the whole hood not aligned thing really is my frame. i don't need to get raped for bodywork.

if dude paints that parts and gives them back to you for you to install them you will be overlooking one very crucial thing. blending the newly painted items to the old paint. might wanna consider that.

best wishes homey

what do you mean? i have the paint code so the color will match. and my mom's boyfriend offered to help out with putting it together. he has some body work knowledge. as i've said, he built a racecar from ground up so i can trust him in knowing what he's doing.

but why wouldn't it blend?

it really doesnt matter if he has the code or not. because the paint on your car believe it or not is faded and discolored from age and weather. even on a car thats 6 months old if its seen enough time in the sun it will be different. a top quality fix will have the items being painted blended into the older items that encompass it. like say if your bumper gets painted they should blend it into the front quarter poanels and on to the hood so it looks seamless.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I had to paint my hood, front bumper, and i had extra so I painted my rear bumper(it looked pink on the ride side from the sun :P) And yes my car is a 93, but it doesnt matter, you have to blend it with the parts that arent getting painted. I had to do to do it with mine, and the paint shop that I got the paint from(guy was A LOT of help, and took us STEP by STEP on how to paint the front end, and he had great prices) told us you have to on any car. Hope everything goes well.

so what can i say to the guy and how am i gonna do it? i am installing the parts myself. so should i install then paint? or what? i'm not paying an extra $800 for someone to put the parts on for me when me and my mom's b/f can do it.

but i can see what you mean. so i should install my fender and have them blend it to the door right? argh i'm confuxxored
