Wink two for one special on the freeway

12:30am... Nice cold air. Relatively empty freeways. Lonely Z on the prowl.

Ok, enough of the mysteriously cool setup.

Left my buddies place after fiddling with his 240Z all night. Hoped onto the freeway for the 10 minute ride home. Settled into a nice 65-70mph cruise, not in any hurry to get home. Plus I was just too tired to really want to go much faster.

Cruising along, I come up on a FedEx truck in the right lane, and a random sedan in the middle lane. I calmly go over to the fast lane to cruise past, I planned on getting back over once I'd passed the two cars. But as I was going to make my lane change, I notice two pairs of head lights rushing up on me fast from behind.

I didn't have any intentions of joining in, So I put my blinker on to move over and let them go past. One was in the carpool lane, the other was coming up behind me in the fastlane.

As I started to go over the one behind me shoots over and goes past me in the middle lane.

Ahh, a Ford Focus ZX3 and a Lexus SC400 battling it out. Odd combination isn't it? I thought so too, thus I had to watch this outcome.

Roll on the throttle in 5th gear, and adjust the boost to 10psi to make a hasty advance on their positions. Seconds later I was right with them. They slowed down it seemed, or maybe I was just going their speed but they seemed to welcome the added 'challenge' or whatever.

I sat in the middle of the two of them, Focus still in the carpool lane and the SC400 still in the middle lane. The both hit it nearly at the same time, I just give it a bit more gas and match their speed.... then roll on more throttle and pull around 2 car lengths and let off.

This repeats itself another time, same results.

The SC400 I guess admitting to defeat, shoots off the freeway and onto another adjoining freeway. As the Lexus left us, The Focus gunned it another time with me and I again pulled away. I figured it was all over... I mean why wouldn't it be? I won right?

Apparently I was wrong?

The Focus driver pulls up next to me wanting a real 1 on 1 match.

Didn't he already see what I can do? What was he thinking? Who knows, so this time I ablige his request. Except I was planning on making this short and sweet cause my exit was coming up.

I down shift to 4th, we're doing about 75-80ish. I look over, he's got tinted windows as do I. So we can't really see each other, So waited for him to go first.

He guns it moments later, and I let his door get to my front bumper and then hit the gas to about 3/4 throttle. I was already sitting at about 4,000rpm just the begining of Boost so it was instant boost and I shot past. Upshift to 5th. And at about 100 or so I let off.

The Focus then shoots in behind me, I'm not sure if he wanted me to follow him. But he got off an exit before my own. I guess I could of. Do a few runs from a dig, but I was already tired as it was and sleeping sounded really nice.

The car has been feeling pretty sluggish the last day or so. The Air/Fuel gauge sits on lean under 'normal' driving. No detonation, just shows lean. It goes rich under boost. This may seem normal, but it used to sit in the rich section of the gauge 95% of the time even on idle with only slight deviations.

I think my injectors are going bad... I'll run some injector cleaner through the system to hopefully clear it out.

During the runs the car just didn't feel as peppy as it normally is. Honestly, I should of just disappeared off their radars the first run but she just wasn't feeling up to it.

Next time maybe.

Screw Cliff notes, Don't be lazy... read for once. It's good for ya. Increases your vocabulary. And has lots of Vitamin D. And 37% of your daily intake of Iron. Only 12 Calories and 3 grams of Sodium too.

Congrats on the Kills, Red.

So when are you and Bobby gonna run? We went from a 70mph roll a week a go and he got me till 145+. His car really took a liking to those cam gears. I'm prolly gonna ask for a rematch soon.

Isn't it also rich in soluble fiber to keep you regular? Maybe that was only if you eat the paper after reading it?

Nice kills man! I didn't know your Z was boosted, that kicks ass!

Re: two for one special on the freeway

you always tell a good story. i actually like the longer tales better than the short ones that leave out detail. good job.

Listen to this man kids, Keeping regular in your bowel movements is a vital thing. If you notice that your bowel movements fail to be on their normal pattern, consult your physician. Or call the Animal Control Agency.

Yeah, I had a SR20DET swapped into the Z.

2200lb car + 230+whp + RWD = Fun times.

I don't know what the actual power output is so far, I need to get her dyno'd. I'm working on that now, got to get penciled in at a local shop. But with the car feeling sluggish and not up to par. I might hold off on dyno time untill I can get it sorted out.

We'll see.

And Danno, I don't know when I'll run Bobby and his EVO. With the way things are going, and how the car is acting up. It may be a while. I'm paranoid to really get on it untill I get the (what I think is) injectors fixed. I don't want to buy new stock injectors when later on I'll be upgrading. And I don't want to buy new 550cc injectors yet, Cause I'd like to spend that money elsewhere like brakes/suspension. Which is badly needed.

Haha, I'm sure Bobby will respond with a generic insult that his Evo will always be better than my Z. He's such a cocky asshole.

Re: two for one special on the freeway

What!!! Me a cocky asshole. Yeah right. Who's the dude that showed you that engine. Besides the only thing I have against you is your power to weight ratio thinking. Power to weight doesn't mean as much as you think it does. I think your car is tight, I just refuse to believe that my car is a boat. Good kill nonetheless. I murder SC400's quite easily. Then again were going from a dig too. I can't wait to see the expression on your face after my takeoff, cause Steve taught me well

Thanks for the props Danno. I think I might actually go up to Speedway since I have been practicing my launches (1.88 sec. 60'). I've gteched at 13.2 thus far. You should be around there with the new mods you got.
