DONE! DONE! DONE!... well at least really close...

and before you ask... PICS ARE COMMING MONDAY!!!

my shit is much to dirty for a photo shoot. 2 weeks in RRE's garage makes for a dirty girl...

here is the list:

Upper gasket kit $140
ARP head studs $95
Factory metal head gasket $95
NGK plugs $10
Magnacore wires $79
Motor mount inserts $23 + $40
Driverside motor mount $54
Front motor mount $36
Denso 660 injectors $440
EVO B-16g turbo $640 + $200
16G Full install kit $325
S-AFC II $360 + $60
Port turbo, ex. mani, o2 housing – everything $225
Greddy 60 EGT w/ P/H $225 + $80
BG tranny fluid $29 + $10
Full timing belt parts $371 + $300
Balance shaft Removal kit $49 + $300
Oil pump & housing gaskets $10
AEM blue cam gears $320
BM fuel reg. & gauge $100 + $40
AEM fuel rail $180
Thermostat $30
Head to Machine shop for rebuild $400?
Remove & install head $500
HKS cams 264, 272 $600

final adjusted total:
Total $6347.00

OK here is the story up to now:

called on monday. got good news and bad news:

good: car turns on OK and runs after all the shit was put on.

bad: AEM sent the wrong O-ring seals for the fuel rail. it squirts fuel out of both ends. won't be able to get them from AEM untill Wed. morning.

called wed afternoon: runs great, O-rings fixed. come in tonight to get final tuning of the SAFC2 done with Roy [url:http://roadraceengineering.com/rre/teamroyzgsx.htm]from RRE[/url].

so i went into RRE, slapped down the cash and went for a spin with Roy. we hook up the RRE datalogging laptop [100% POS!! we had to hotwire it to a car battery charger cuz my lighter mysteriously quit working!].

i discover that the wonderful guy's at RRE forgot to hook up my speedometer. bastards. i still have no idea how fast i'm going, but we will get to that later.

oh ya, and i had to take the bumper cover off to get the car on a trailor. so now i'm driving around with no cover on. long story short, i now have no dust plates in front of my wheels oh and i lost a side marker plug.

OK, so here we are, racing up and down this back road doing 2nd and third gear pulls while these guy's are loading a truck. we are passing them around 80-100 mph [speedo is broke], data logging and making adjustments to the SAFC when we stop.

final #'s: 890 on the EGT, .94 fuel air ratio all the way down the RPM range, 18psi solid. no idea how fast.

at this point i now know what real turbo lag is. and 264/272 cams idle like SHIT. but hitting 18psi@~3500rpm is like getting shot off a carrier deck. shit just blurs. i would have like to be in the passenger seat just for the ride. it was fun as hell. but something was burning ans i thought it was the breaks, but it turned out to be the dust plates.

so then i dropped roy off at the shop and started home. with no front bumper cover. i thought some chicks were yelling at me because of my now sounding like a mosnter dragger car. but then i figured they may have been making fun of me. no matter. time to get on the freeway. VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! we are talking PUT INTO THE SEATS! damn it was so fun i almost got off to get back on again. and still have no idea how fast i was going [as you can see it was gettin very annoying at this point. i mean shit is going by pretty fast. but you have no sense of speed with no speedo.]

so i have had it for about 19 hous at this point and other than the shitty lag and the idle issues, i absolutely love it!

more to come because i have to leave work soon. and yes pics are comming!!!!!!!

thanks to many of the guy's that have been in this forum for a while, for giving experience.

Re: DONE! DONE! DONE!... well at least really close...

NICE!!!! Although the shitty idle is probably from the balance shafts being removed, not the cams . I don't think 264/272 is aggressive enough to give a crappy idle, but having no balance shafts sure can! Anyways, I'm glad to see your car is running great again, and you should take it to the track/dyno to get some numbers for us soon!

Sounds like the car is doing well! You can easily reconnect the speedo, the connector is "in" the rear tranny mount. Straight below the throttle body on the tranny. Take that thing to the track and see what it runs!

Re: DONE! DONE! DONE!... well at least really close...

Balance shafts have a small efect on idle quality. Hard to even tell, except with solid motor mounts. Any cam change however will drastically change idle! Its the way its supposed to be, enjoy it The V8 guys will look at you funny once you get cams

umm...what would you EXCLUDE off Vince's list if you wanted just a basic 16G setup with minimal supporting mods to run decent boost?

Nice Vince. Glad to hear your car is doing fine. Let us know the #'s when you take it to the track, and results on the dyno.

Re: DONE! DONE! DONE!... well at least really close...

thanks guys!

i fixed the speedo, tightened the alternator belt [was a little squeaky on start-up] and adjusted the idle up to ~700 from ~450.

i went with the EVO 16g because it was only a bit more $$ than the basic or regular big 16g, and it is also as big as i'm ever going to go with the car. it is a teeny bit laggy, but now that i got the speedo hooked up i8 can see that even lagging a bit it is still faster than the t-25 [not that i thought it wasn't, but it felt funny watching the boost gauge slowly build up as opposed to the t-25 instant boost].

with the B&M FPR my idle is solid at 44psi. [i saw another post that someone was having too high pressure]

anything near WOT in 1st over ~4500 is spinning the tires. same with second over ~5750 [not to mention torque steer]. 3rd is a ride from hell, and 4th is pure speed. dropping it on the freeway from 5th to 4th is a great big smile

anything resembling wheel hop has dissapeared. they just spin now. the motor mount inserts helped tremendously. you all will see pics of what they pulled out. basicaly ripped apart mounts... lol. i was turned away from the solid motor mounts because RRE said every guy that got them hated them for daily driving use because of the vibrations. and combined with the balance shafts removed he said i could if i wanted to, but it would realy shake pretty good.

now i gotta get some datalogging stuff to really fine tune the SAFC, and also so i can raise the boost. i'm only running about 18psi right now on 91 [yuk] pump gas. the hi'low function of the Profec B2 is now useless, they are both set the same so i can switch the start up warning off in 1 button push. i am also fully sold on the GReddy 60mm peak/hold gauges. super easy to see and you can pull up your peak after you pull.

cam gears weren't too neccesary, as some seroius dyno time is in order to really be able to tune them.

but the cams themselves... damn, i have never heard a 4cyl engine rumble like that. and at idle it sounds like a dragster, bra bra bra bra bra bra bra bra... you get the funniest looks from stang guy's!

OK... pics are on the way this weekend. she is sooo dirty from the shop. and also there is some speaker install stuff going on, so it may have to go to the stereo shop too for a while...

it never ends...
