2001 GT-Trac off light comes on and tach dies

Intermittently when I am driving the trac off light comes on and the tachometer dies. Sometimes when this happens the engines dies and cannot be started for several minutes. Took it to a dealer who found nothing wrong with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the crank position sensor is failing.

actually that is the EXACT problem. i had the same symptoms for a while actually. and then FINALLY the computer threw a code that my crankshaft position sensor was gone.....i wouldn't mess around with anything else but that. go to the place you have you car fixed and order one in. i took mine to goodyear and it was about $220 bucks installed. it's not cheap but it's b/c of the odd placement of the sensor

HASN'T STALLED SINCE. i've had the new sensor for months now and still going strong.

Definitely Crank Shaft Positioning Sensor needs to be replaced. Easy to do, just takes a little time. Pull right front wheel, remove plastic schroud attached to frame, remove bolt in ctr of harmonic balancer, using harmonic balancer puller-remove balancer, remove plastic protector over sensor and then replace Crank Shaft Sensor
