Water getting into Trunk

I have noticed that after heavy rain storms my trunk takes in a nice bit of water, about a gallon. It isnt coming through the top part of the trunk trunk, because nothing is wet, except for underneath where the spare tire is supposed to be? I cant figure it out, if the hole was in the bottom of the trunk , it would drain itself out, if it was coming from a seal, my carpeting would get wet. Could this potentially rot my trunk out, if so how long would that take? Any ideas how to fix it without bringing it to a shop?

Re: Water getting into Trunk

well, I have a '92 and I had water getting into the trunk when I bought it a few weeks ago. I don't know if you have a 4th gen but if you do you might have the same problem. The rubber strip along the bottom of the window has 7 screws holding it in. I took the strip off to find that the holes for the screws had been rusted out and water was getting in through there. Once its inside it sometimes goes through the side of the body into the bottom. I tried to silicon the crap out of the holes but it didn't work, I'm going to have to use a bondo type epoxy and fill ever hole with it and then put the strip back on. This could be your problem, it's not hard to check, and worth taking a look.
