I'm looking for a 911 (993 or 996) whatcha think?

I'm in the market for a 911. 1998 (993) or 2002 (996) Should I go with the air-cooled or water cooled. I like the new interior of the 996 however the 993 is more traditional. All of that aside which is the better car overall?

Financialy, the 993 is by far the better probosition. The 997 was launched on the 18th of this month over here, and as you will no, features 993 style round lamps. This return to the classic style of the 911 not only is great news for tradition, but it will also herald a dramatic price drop for the 996, with its "fried egg" headlights, and will stabilise the prices of the 993, in some cases, increasing them. If you want a 996, wait for the cheeper ones. If you want a 993, buy now, and watch your baby appreciate in value.

As the shape of the 911 remains so unspoilt, i'd have the 993. Plus the aircooled engine is as good as the 996 Carrera.

Re: I'm looking for a 911 (993 or 996) whatcha think?

Finally Retired I haved to Say the prices will still reduce on the 993 because its an older car with older technology, look at the 964 which isn't in the porsche forum, so much for enthusiasts, it is known as the purst 911 besides the original. anyway onto jlowery The 996 will probably go down as a sought of dark year for the traditional 911 but its engineering is great, on the other hand the 993 has some problems like the clutch but it is more traditional. Personally I say look through bookstores and over the web for some backround on both then choose what you want and find a buyers guide so you know your 911 a when you find a great example you pounce on it. If you do get a 996, i suggest GT3, C4S, C4 but constraints may include Money and what you want. The Biggest mistake people have when buying a 911 is they don't wait for a good example allow 2-21/2 months if you haven't found a good example. But Check Backround and buyers guides and get the 911 you desire, but being a bit of a traditionalist myself I say a 993 with 996 turbo wheels but i am byis so good luck.
