door handle sticks

The inside door handle on my 98 2dr Tahoe started sticking. I now have to shoulder the door to get out. Anyone have this problem? And a solution that doesn't involve going to the dealer and costing a fortune?
I'm new to using a forum, but I've heard this is a great way to get info. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: door handle sticks

Hello Fellow Newbie,

Yes, mine started doing the same thing two months ago. Inside door handle eventually broke. The door hinge pins apparently bent, door slightly misaligned but enough to make it stick. A body shop can help straighten it out/replace pins, and also replace the inside door handle. Do a search for "inside door handle" and narrow it down to Tahoe. I have to roll my window down to reach out and open the door with the outside door handle -- gotta fix it before winter; was a bummer during the big rains... Franko

Thanks for the input. I'll start going by some body shops and see if I can find someone to take a look at it. I'll keep you up to date if anything "odd" happens. Again thanks for the help.

Re: door handle sticks

Yep the handle will break pretty soon. Had to replace the driver side last summer and the passenger side is comming up here pretty quick.
Not hard to replace.

Exclamation help

Trying to find out specifics on tools and instructions on how to get the door apart to fix my inside handle which is now hanging and seemingly disconnected on the inside. Maybe its broken or maybe it just needs re-attached. I was having to shoulder the door open for awhile but now I have to role down the window and use the outside handle to get it open.
Thanks for the help anyone.

Re: help

Just had the same problem. I first replaced the door pins and bushings. That fixed the sagging door. Next replaced the striker. The door was still hard to open after a couple thousand miles. Replaced the door latch mechanism this weekend. When I went to test it, the inside door handle broke. Replaced the handle assembly and WOW it is like the day it cam off the assembly line. My wife is not cussing me anymore.

I am having this same problem. I already orderd new pins and bushings for the door, but there is no way I can replace them myself. How much did it cost to get yours fixed?

Re: door handle sticks

Well U Can Also Get A New Door Handle Off Ebay For $20 Total..i Did Mine In Bout 30min Or Less..the Hardest Part Is To Break The Rivet That Holds The Handle On!!! It Only Takes A Screw Driver And Bout Fiver Good Hits!!!but When U Replace The Handle Theres No Need To Replace The Rivet Because The Handle Has An Slide Lock Action So It Holds Itself Inplace!!!!

Re: door handle sticks

Got the same problem! Door handle broke, been rolling down the window to get out!! My question is: How do you remove the door panel to get at this? I removed all the screws I could find. There seems to be some sort of "pop in" fasteners?! I tried to pry them out but with the amount of force I was using, I feared I would break something!! What's the trick? I'm not used to working on such a "new" vehicle!
