96 Accord LX leaking oil near timing belt

19 months ago I replaced a seal that popped out near the timing belt. I also purchases a retainer clip for this seal. This was a problem that Honda had a recall on but I bought the car used and never knew about the recall. The seal popped out 1 month after the recall expired. I was pissed to say the least.

I replaced the seal and put the retainer clip in and this seemed to resolve the problem for the last 19 months. Now I am seeing oil spots on my driveway that seem to be coming from the exact same place as the seal I replaced. I haven't pulled all the belts and the timing cover yet but will do so shortly.

Has anyone had this click installed on their car? Has anyone had oil leaks from the timing belt cover?

Could I have not pushed the seal in far enougth or could the new seal have worn out?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have a 90 accord with a leak near the timing belt, but i dont know what youre talking about as for a "click." My leak is either the head gasket has malfunctioned or the block is cracked(which i doubt) . Hvae you replaced any of the gaskets? Have you taken your car to a certified mechanic?

Maybe that would help

Re: 96 Accord LX leaking oil near timing belt

It could be the crankshaft seal again or the leak could be coming from the oil pump which is driven off one of the timing belts. The best bet is to put some dye into the oil and then take off the timing belt cover and examine. The dye is flourerscent and glows under a black light.
