front brake question
My front brakes are OK when I first start driving. No pulsing, good pedal feel etc. However once they warm up after a while the truck pulls to the left and it seems as if the left front caliper drags a bit. Sometimes you'll smell a bit of the brakes burning up.
It looks like some grease from the tie rod gets on the disk sometimes. could that contaminate the pad and make it act up as it gets warmer? The brakes sometimes squeak and drag a bit after this happens, but the noise goes away if I tap the pedal. I am really tight on cash and am looking to see what this might be before I take it to the shop. |

Re: front brake question
yes if your pads or shoes get contaminated they will do this. Fix the contamination source and change your pads. :-)

Re: front brake question
i say clean all grease up and spray the pads and disks with break cleaner. if that don't work bleed the breaks. still messed up then you have a warped disk or sticky caliper. have the disk turned (they will tell you if its good) if not than replace the caliper always remember when you replace pads do both sides at the same time, always!

Re: front brake question
*sigh* rotors don't warp... I'll find the link that explains it if you want.

Re: front brake question
WHAT! Rotors DO WARP! I have turned enough to know. Factors are driver rides brake, rotor itself too thin just to name a few!
I have had the same problem with my Xj. I would look at the Power slot rotors and pads. They have a beter surface and supposed to offer a better braking ability. |
