Question lowering x-cab

I called today about getting my 99 silverado x-cab lowered 2/4 and they said it was $1100. Said they had to pull the bed, fuel cell, and they would have to put in some pinion and tranny shims. Does this sound legit??? I see kits in the magazines for $300-$400, non of them say anything about shimming the transmission.

Re: lowering x-cab

I've seen something of this sort on TRUCKS! on Spike TV. I think he installed shims if I'm not mistaken.

2/4 for $1100 is a freaking rip off. Shops in Houston charge about that or a little more for a 4/6. You shouldn't be paying anymore than $750 or so installed. There is no need to remove the gas tank or remove the bed for a simple 2/4 drop. The angle shims are right though. They should be installed to help reduce vibration and keep everything in line. Find another shop and call those fuckers back once you find a cheaper place and tell them their prices are outrageous.
