problems starting after new alternator install

1986 Grand Marquis had a bad alternator so we had it replaced then it would not start for a day. The next morning it started fine, there are no loose connections that I could find and am baffeled as to why it would not start. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Starting

Nsparky, It sounds to me as if the bushings in the end of the starter are worn. When cold the armature will get the engine going however, when hot, the armature draws lots of juice. As the bushins wear the armature tilts, and causes a lot of draw on your battery.Sounds like a starter replacement, Ken

Re: problems starting after new alternator install

Did you recharge the battery after you replaced the alternator? An alternator will not recharge a battery that has been drained. It will only maintain a charge. I would suspect that the battery had just enough time to recharge itself to allow it to start. Put a battery charger on the battery and bring it to full charge. After that I doubt you will have any problems.
