Question JDM headlight assemblies

I am looking for information on "how to" reseal Jdm 1 piece headlight assembly. Did search and came out with nothing. Did see it in here before the changes to forum.
Thanx

Re: JDM headlight assemblies

What do you mean by reseal? Are you talking about the silicone?

Re: JDM headlight assemblies

Yup, it seems that they are leaking water and i like to reseal the seams (lens to the body assembly). They are the JDM black 1 piece headlites assem. I saw on this forum a "how to" separate them but now it is gone. Thanx

Re: JDM headlight assemblies

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees and set the housings in there for about 10 minutes each (without the bulbs of course). When you pull them out, take a screwdriver and pry the clear plastic off the rest of the housing.. the silicone will be melted like wet bubblegum. Once separated, scrape off the remaining silicone with a razor so when you put the new shit on it will make a better seal. If any gooey silicone gets on the rest of the housing anywhere, just spray a little WD40 on a paper towel and wipe it up.. it will come right off.

Make a nice thick bead around the entire housing, then press the big clear piece onto it firmly. After that, I ran another thin bead overtop the seam again just to make sure there would be no leaks. Oh and make sure you use clear silicone, looks a lot cleaner. Just remember that patience really comes into play on this, scraping that excess silicone off takes a lot of time and can be frustrating.

Re: JDM headlight assemblies

Thank you for the info Ricochet. Any type of silicone you recommend (auto, house, etc.)?
Thanks again.

Re: JDM headlight assemblies

Pretty much any silicone will work but I nabbed this stuff because it was just laying around at my parent's house

My camera sucks, but I you can almost tell I did a really good job. If I would have used some kind of black or gray shit, you'd be able to see every little mess up.
