Tranny Hose Connection

I am replacing my radiator and tranny cooler. There is a funny connection that I don't know how to undo. It has two flanges that look like they should be pressed together around the metal lead. They don't release. Can I cut the hose and use tube and hose clamps as a coupler?

Re: Tranny Hose Connection

I would first find out just how much pressure is on the coolant lines. Normally I wqould just cut and put in your coupler, but with Jeeps I'm not sure. You could probably ask any tranny shop (reputable), they should be able to tell you. Let me know what you find out, I want to install a cooler too, at 90K, I figure the tranny could use a little TLC.

It is a pain. First squeeze the plastic 'ears' together. Hold them together and try to force the parts together, then hold it tighter and pull them apart. If your replacing the radiator, just wiggle the leg from the hose to the radiator, breaking it off. Remove the radiator and you'll have more room to work. Having 3 hands would be real helpful. Also, go to the parts store and purchase new inserts. They are a common item. They are made for GM, Dodge, and Ford, so don't just grab the 1st pack you see.

Thanks Ted,
That worked, and I did have to replace the leg. Those things are a pain, I was afraid to break anything I was going to need.
