96 Blazer S10 Code P0101 Maf Or Vaf

My Blazer s10 96 has no acceleration. After driving it excessively today I got the ECM to cough up a code. It was "P0101 MAF OR VAF CKT RANGE/ PERFORMANCE". I am not sure what VAF is. But I looked at the Air meter made sure there was no visual debris and that the wires/plug was well connected. Before replacing the MAF meter, I was wondering if this code could be something else? Any comments are apreciated.

thank you.

Have you ever done a tuneup? When have you done it?

What have you done maintenance wise?

Do you have an after market intake on your truck?

Have you Descreened the MAF?

Thanks for the reply,

I have not done a tune up in over a year.
The truck is all stock. No K&N filter, no descreening of the MAF.

I ran the car without the filter and it ran good. So I replaced the air filter hoping that was the problem. And it did help for a day. But it started to do it again. When it does it, there is no power, and when I press the gas pedal it feels like it is just sucking air. It does not always pop up the "check engine light". I have to push it real hard for that to pop up. I disconnected the MAF plug wire and then re-connected it and it appears to have gone away for now.

I am not too sure what to do when sometimes it works and sometimes not.

thanks,

I have had a similar problem with mine, when it does it try running it with the gas cap loose see if it helps. The gas cap has a vent and if it does not vent properly a vacuum builds up in the tank as fuel is removed and the fuel pump can not pump at the proper pressure.

What did the tuneup contain?

The tune up was only change in
Plugs,fuel filter,cap,rotor and air filter.

I just wish it would break down for good. I think it is easier to troubleshoot that way. If sometimes it works and sometimes not...this really confuses me.

sound like your MAF sensor has gone bad.

Time to change it.

Can you specify where is the sensor. Is it right after the whole meter assembly? or do you mean replace the whole meter.

Thank you

It is half way between where the air intak connects to the top of the engine and the airfilter.

It will have a connector attached to it.

Re: 96 Blazer S10 Code P0101 Maf Or Vaf

MAF = Mass Air Flow
VAF = Volume Air Flow

Generally this means the sensor is bad - replace it and this should correct the problem - if not post and I will locate testing procedure for wiring diagnosis

This is a UK website but DTC definitions are extremely easy to obtain and read:
