How fast can you type? (I won't be posting much)

This is f**kin' frustrating

Took me about 45 seconds to a minute to type the thread title above

I just started using a cd-rom typing tutor about an hour ago. I have the basic home keys down with a few others. I was averaging 10-13 WPM when not looking at the keys :finger: But, when I use my own style that I have used for years (that I am using right now), I can type all that above in less than a minute

So, how fast can you type?

...Should I just only post using the home keys and type everything -- e-mails, posts, etc... that way? I really want to learn how to type properly, but it's f**kin frustrating having to think for a sec of what finger goes to what key, etc..... etc.....

I wish I would of done this shit right from the start!!!

Try and learn the home keys. Then build your own style from there. I can, on a good day, hit maybe 60 wpm. On a average day, it will drop to mayb 35 or so. But I have adapted my own style from the basic way they teach you.

So, you started learning the proper way and went with what was easier as far as the keys above and below the home keys.

Will a job look at this when taking a typing test for employment

I used to be able to type like 100 wpm back in highschool when I had keyboarding. I remember I hit 110 once. But that is really trying my ass off. I'd say I average like 70-90wpm.

As far as learning, just stick at it and type everything in the correct way. After a while you will learn and it will become second nature. I think I hit everything accept the B with the correct fingers. For some reason I hit B with my right pointer finger... Don't ask me But I was blazin fast in Keyboarding so my teacher left me alone

Yes, I learned the correct way in high school. It pretty much has stuck. however, I have changed it a bit, so that it fits my typing style better. Its kind of like driving. You sould learn the way the drivers ed teachers teach you, then adapt your own style. Make sense?

As for the employers. All the tests I have taken, they look at the finished product. If I can type 45 wpm using single pecks, I can get the job done. So if you meet what they ask, varying from the 'standard' shouldnt be a big deal.

I never could get the "proper" typing method down, and it used topiss off my typing teacher in high school. I type using mostly the middle and index finders. I can do 80 wpm that way. The "proper" way...I am hopeless. I just stick to what I know and what gets the job done.

I haven’t taken a test to see where I am at but the several years ago I was in the 80+ range. Considering that I write code and design documents all day, I am probably still there or maybe even better.

about 35-40 wpm. I have tried to increase the speed, but I think my fingers are too fat for normal keyboards.

Last i checked i was at around 60+ wpm. use to do data entry so i was much faster back then in high school. i just play games now dont need to type real much every thing is in short hand when u chat too

But ya some jobs ull need to type fast but unless your gona be behind the computer all day dont count on it being one of the major requirements. Just practice ull learn eventully, once u can type with out looking at he Key board then ur've got it down GOOD LUCK !!
