Engine swap
I have a 1990 Honda accord EX and the timing belt went out as I was driving down the road. Would it be smarter to replace the engine?. Mechanic said I need a new head. How well do the JDM motors last. I heard they are only good for about 50,000. Is this true andf where could I find a place to buy a engine from

Re: Engine swap
Likely your cyl head must be rebuilt as you may have bent some valves.
If your engine is high mileage or burning oil, do the whole engine. Otherwise, just do the head. When the head comes off, the mechanic can check for cylinder wear, which is a better indication on how much life the engine has left. |

Re: Engine swap
if the motor you have right now has high miles on it i would just do the whole motor.. if it has low miles and your not going for hp i would do a head... but you ask about jdm motors well they are great and the last way past 50,000 here is a site you can check out some motors www.nippon-motors.com they got some good stuff...

Re: Engine swap
www.hmotorsonline.com
They'll last you a very long time if you maintain well. Come on bro its a honda I'd get the h22 swap. I dont know where you from but they usually install the motor between 600-1000. Find any performance shop in your area to see if they can do it for you.

Re: Engine swap
when i did the motor swap i had a shop around here do it and it was about $4,000 give or take .. i do not have the recipt off hand... but as long as you take care of any motor it will last ... the jdm b16a that i put in my car had about 50,000 on it and i have since then put about 40k-50k on it... so it just depends how much you abuse it... good luck

Is the H22 compatible with my 2.2l sohc engine int here now? Does anyone know of a site in canada where I can buy from. I dont mind buying in United States if needed. Just the border broker will charge a arm and leg and I like my legs and arms..

Re: Engine swap
The h22 will drop right in! All you need to do is wire up the vtec and i believe you got to extend the shift cable. I'll try to find some more info. Go to www.honda-tech.com I'm sure theres plenty of ppl there with an accord h22 swap.

Re: Engine swap
Well, you have a few options.
I'm not sure if you had a mechanic check it out, or got a quote on what the damage is. If it's not too expensive, I would do the repair if you don't have a lot of miles on it. As far as the JDM engines are concerned, they are good for well over 50K miles on them and they do run strong. But just like any other engine. It need regular maintenance. If you are of the opinion that you are having problems that will not justify the repair costs, maybe a compelte swap might be the answer. Here is a source that i have used in the past for my swaps. Hope it helps. www.jdm-motor-engines.com Fast Forward Quote:
