1992 5L RS, MAF or MAP
My 92 305 RS is throwing out a code 23. Which haynes state is the Mass Air Flow Sensor code. So, I tried to find a new one, but the parts stores all say "Not Available". They do have MAP sensors, and I read somewhere that they changed to MAP sensors for TPI engines in 1990.
Also fbodymotorsports.com only seem to sell MAP sensors for 1990+ vehicles. Does anyone know whether the 5.0L RS uses MAF or MAP??? I am so confused.

Re: 1992 5L RS, MAF or MAP
Normally when the parts stores say NOT AVAILABLE it means it’s a Dealer only part... Call you local Chevy Parts Dealer and see what they say...

Re: 1992 5L RS, MAF or MAP
Yea 1990 was the year of change to MAP sensors. Just look in front of your throttle body. Is there a MAF sensor hooked in between the rubber boot and the dual snorkel piece that hooks upto the air filters??

Re: 1992 5L RS, MAF or MAP
well, if its a 5.0L RS, its a TBI engine, i know there is a MAP sensor under the air cleaner i think??? crap cant remember, and i know built into the air cleaner there is a sensor that has an electrical connector, but i think its an air temp sensor. If im correct it is a MAP sensor on the TBI engines, and if i remember right its on the firewall, behind the intake.

You have both a MAP and MAT/IAT sensor. The Map sensor should be located on the passenger side of the firewall (by the AC). It should have a black, light green and gray wire going to it. That is where mine is located and I have a 92 RS as well. The MAT (IAT on newer models) is located in the stock air cleaner and it should have a tan and a black wire going to it.. This sensor measures the air temp going into the TBI.
Here is a link to a a vendor for the MAP sensor. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...EM.A.P.+SENSOR Just copy and past it. Phil Sorry forgot to add that only MPFI V6 and TPI V8 models use the MAF sensor. |
