Custom True Dual Exhaust, Shop Pricing?
Im looking to get a True Dual 2 1/2" diameter exhaust on my truck. I know it's not an awesome Camaro, but the Chevy Truck forum is pretty dead. Im guessing it would be around 14 feet of tubing about (with the bends, just guessing) and the X pipe crossover. Im looking to get two 40 series Flowmasters, no cats, and straight back dual slant cut tips. How much would the muffs, pipes, bending, labor, and the X crossover pipe cost about if I had a shop do it? I wanted to do the bending and welding myself in my metals class but we don't have a mandrel bender, Any suggestions or info?
I could do the welding myself, it's only the bending I can't do. Should I just call around and check shops? What would the about average price that I should expect to pay for all of it, or just the bending be? Thanks for the inputs. ![]() Also would this sound ok, or illegal?

Re: Custom True Dual Exhaust, Shop Pricing?
well first off, keep all gremlins, as artisticly cool as they may be, away from all automotive endevors!!!!!
second, i think that would sound just fine. twin 40 serise mufflers are pretty popular install, and i see em everywhere, so if you would get tickets for it, i doubt that many people would do it.

haha, sorry about the gremlin man I was just bored. Thanks for the suggestion, but about how much should I expect to pay for the piping, bending, and the two muffs. I can weld it and hang it myself if thats a possibility. Thanks.

Re: Custom True Dual Exhaust, Shop Pricing?
well, never worked at a muffler shop, but i would say 200-350 would be a fair price for a custom exhaust system, assuming youre gonna hang and weld it yourself.

Re: Custom True Dual Exhaust, Shop Pricing?
i thought that you couldnt run true dual like that in the f-bodies for various reasons. one of them being the fuel/brake lines that run down the driver's side...

Sorry for the confusion, but it's for my 89 Chevy C1500. The C/K forum was put with like ever other truck from chevy in the forum, so nobody really looks at posts there much anymore from what I can see. I think I mentioned that in my first post, and the drawing is bad, but I just wanted a picture to go with what im thinking of in case my explination wasn't good. Those womens legs are valve covers silly :P haha. Those "fun holes" are the crank and camshaft. I guess the pic made it even more confuzing lol.
Anywhooo...$300 sounds like a good deal for all that bending especially if it's mandrel bent. Is that price including the two 40 series muffs or would that be another $200 or some crazy thing? I know the passenger side has enough clearance for the duals, but the drivers side pipe would have to go over the gas tank, or next to it. (which would be very tight) I was pondering 3" dual pipes, but I heard thats too big for the 305 that's in it now and even the 350 im planning on buying for it very soon. Suggestions on the diameter would be nice if you have any. I gutted the cat on it a while back and I heard if I bring it to the shop I could get charged friggin $2,500 (thats what it says on it's sign in the front) so is there a way I could make like a mock pipe out of paper mache' or something? LoL it sounds ghey but I don't want to risk it. Would they even make the piping without selling me a friggin Cat? Sorry for the crazy questions but I just want to be sure. What do you suggest to find out how it should be bent and where and how to tell them and everything? Thanks so much for the help, I appretiate it a lot. Thanks!

Re: Custom True Dual Exhaust, Shop Pricing?
ide put my crankshaft into that fun hole
If your looking to go budget, you could buy all the mandrel bends you think you'l need, buy an x pipe, and buy a bunch of straight pipe and weld it all up yourself.. The muffler shop could sell you various Mandrel bends.. (thats usually the way they do mandrel systems.. Mandrel benders are hard to come by) and you could design and weld it all yourself

I'll run down there after skool tomorrow and see what they have and ask them what it would be for both complete bent piping, or see if they have just the sections and what not.
