Oil Filter Trick?

I just changed the oil filter for the first time on my recently acquired 2000 V6 TRD Taco. Okay the flap is handy to reach in to access the filter but I drained the oil and there was still a considerable amount of oil in the filter when I unscrewed it. Naturally the oil spilled all over and got caught up in the skid shields then dripped on my driveway.

Is there a way to get the filter out without making a mess?

Re: Oil Filter Trick?

I remove the engine covers and get at the filter from below. Mine seems to drain most of the way and the little that comes out, I wipe off the differential and such with a towel.

Re: Oil Filter Trick?

Sometimes you can poke a hole in the back of the filter with a screw-driver, that can allow air to get in to the filter to displace the oil.
