I know they sell a crate engine for the srt-4. I think it runs upwards of 3-5K. Don't quote me exactly on that price range but its somewheres up there. As for fitment issues, i have no idea.

Yes you can. Problems are the wires and guages. Better off turboing your neon and putting a 2.4 in.

2.4L swap is not easy. Unless you know a lot about Neons I wouldn't try it.

you could put in a 2.4 that is found in mitsubishi eclips and all the SRT-4 parts fit right in just do the swap and go to a dodge dealer and order the turbo the oil squirters and shit like that

Re: Could i put a SRT 4 motor in my 96 neon?

diebythesword - unless im wrong the only eclipse with the 2.4 is the Spyder GS and thats a 4g64.

the rs/gs have the 420a thats was also used in neons, just backwards from the eclipse...ex neon has the header on the firewall side, eclipse has header on the bumper side.

again i may be wrong but i think thats how it is.

Re: Could i put a SRT 4 motor in my 96 neon?

its not too tough, you will need a computer from the srt, but other than that its not too bad. check out www.srtforums.com. a couple of guys there have done the swap. the motor is the exact same size exteranlly as the 2.0 and bolts right in. your old tranny will work on it too. if you can put in a new motor in your neon, you can install the srt motor. if you get the whole thing, you wont have to worry about adding any oil lines or anything, all will come with the kit. i highly recommend doing the install.

and for whomever said just stick with the stratus 2.4, come on. spend the little extra and get the whole thing! it bolts in the exact same. overall its a cake swap.

Re: Could i put a SRT 4 motor in my 96 neon?

the block is different from this and the american stratus, so the oil squirters and the like will be too expensive to add later. plus you would have to run less boost than on the lower compression SRT block. and we all know that a low compression high boost motor can make way more power than a high compression low boost motor.

and the motor is also totally different from any Mitsu motor. its an A853 block by dodge, not anything similar to the 4g motors.

the srt motor is VERY stong. more than a dozen guys i know personally that are pushing more than 450hp daily drivers!!! go with this setup i promise you will be happy

Good luck dropping it in. TEX may like the SRT 4 engine, but that doesn't change the fact that you're going to have problems putting it in.

Here's a link you should check out before you make any final decisons - http://neons.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12557

Re: Could i put a SRT 4 motor in my 96 neon?

you will only have problems if you have a hard time replacing any normal motor. not everyone can do a swap, you need tools, experience, and space, just like any automotive work. but if you have the capability of pulling a motor, you yourself can do it

oh and for the record, the 2.4L SRT motor IS different from the 2.4L stratus motor!!! it is not the same. and if you get a full motor including sensors and computer - so you dont have to deal with that issue - it is almost as straigh forward as possiable.

but if you want more power and dont have to swap motors. just use your 2L setup and get the SRT turboset up. it will install fairly easy - you have to run oil and water lines, and will need an aftermarket wastegate actuator so you can control boost. but other than that its bolt on and go. i recommend 4-6psi for decent power that wont blow your motor
