Blower Motor Whine
Whenever I turn my fan on a whine is coming from the blower area. It gets louder when the fan speed is increased. I've read some posts about water possibility getting into this area. I did hand wash my car a day ago so this could be a possibility. It also sounds like a bad bearing -- kinda like a bad computer fan gone bad. It still blows air.
Should I just access the blower from underneath the glove compartment and investigate for water? Or just buy a new motor and replace? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. gf -- 2000 Grand Prix GTP |

Re: Blower Motor Whine
the motor is relatively easy to get to. It is not uncommon for water or leaves/debris to get in the heater box and make noise. If you don't find anything in there, you need a motor. You might want to pick one up just in case the motor is bad, so you have it there. You can always take it back as long as you don't install it.

Ive also read where others have had luck just pulling out the motor and cleaning it up and lubing the bushing's....Ive had great luck using DuPont Multi-Use Lubricant

Whining Blower Motor
Everytime I turned on the fan, this whining noise came from underneath the glove compartment. Found out that water after a heavy rain was leaking in the blower motor. As the fan is on, squirt some lubricant (WD-40, etc.) on the shaft-no disassembly required- as the motor is spinning. Spray lubricant in the opening located in the center of the motor. This works greatly.

Re: Blower Motor Whine
I just took out my blower motor cause of the resistor. At the time i didnt know if it was the resistor or motor. But any way i took a 9v R/C battery and hooked it up to the motor see if the motor was bad. Might want to try that to see if you get the sound.

Re: Re: Blower Motor Whine
I found my problem. Turns out someone (me?) jammed an envelope and it slipped past the back of glove box into the blower moter. Once I took off the glove box I noticed it immediately.

Re: Blower Motor Whine
blurr, put it back. It's the only blower on your car that makes noise.
