Power Box?

I just got back from my dealer today and they had a power-box for almost every Honda engine. For a 1.4l they gave a increase of 12hp . Offcourse I was curieus and asked about it. They hadn't tested it yet theirself but had the figures for the manufacturer. I'm going to call them back in a few weeks to see how it went. They ask +400 euro for that, would 12 hp be worth this price? BTW: what are the pros and cons of a Power-Box?

Normally a Power Box is for diesel engines only! In this case Iīm sure that itīs just another piggyback ECU or in other words itīs just another method of chiptuning. So 400 Euro is definetly too much and most Honda engines wonīt see this gain of 12hp. You will also need up to 1l gas more than usually for a gain which you wonīt really feel. But this is just a guess!

I don't know what a power box is but if it really ads 12hp it's worth the proce imo. But I don't think that it really ads 12hp but then again I don't know what it is

Iīm pretty sure about that itīll be a piggyback ECU! So it wonīt really be worth it. If you really want anything like that and you donīt care about spending too much money for the product and gas then do a common chiptuning! But I wouldnīt recommend it out of personal experience.

You should also think about the kind of petrol you need then, it's very likely you need euro98 then...quite expensive.

Yep, thatīs right! But actually Iīm not sure if youīll really need this kind of gas, maybe itīs just recommended but not necessary!? Chiptuning is pretty much the same like an Apexi VAFC (I mean both are doing kind of the same thing!) and Iīve never heard from an US member that he changed his gas because of that.

Veetec is right, it's basicly a second ECU that reroutes some of the 'info (?)'. If I call them back I'll see what they say about the gas milige, hp gain and stuff like that.

Iīve found something that might be interesting for all DOHC VTEC drivers. Have a look at www.jacksonracing.com/pages/partshonda.html and there under `VAPCī! Itīs a VTEC-controller which will use signals from all the important VTEC supply inputs and amplify these signals to change the engagement point of the VTEC system. This means no guessing on how much extra fuel you will need! The controller accesses the VTEC fuel map on the ECU for continued proper fuel delivery once VTEC is engaged. You can set the VTEC engagement point between 2.500 and 6.000rpm.
The US members told me that itīs not that good because it doesnīt has got as many opportunities as the Apexi VAFC! But most european members with a DOHC VTEC engine donīt have got as many mods as the US members so I donīt see the need to adjust the engine on its own stock parts! Or am I wrong?
What do you think about it?
