Re: Want to put a turbo on my 280.

... Woah... Might try to work on your typing skills there buddy.

Anyways, you'll need to custom fabricate a turbo manifold, inlet, intercooler, outlet, exhaust outlet... Lots of work. Not worth it.

Buy a turbo powertrain.

Re: Want to put a turbo on my 280.

Why dont you put a Geo Metro Three-Banger in it... With a 250shot of N2O, forger pistons, connectors, crank, completely built upper and lower end, and a turbo system... That would be what?

About 95bhp?

You just a ****in hater ain't you?

If your ragging on some negative power potential FWD pos thats one thing. But I safely bet that even a base trim Corvette can rip just about anything out there in its price range quite a few new ones. When you got a 45-50k Vette out there in the SCCA running against Vipers, 911s and 355s that are all almost twice or more what the Vette costs and the Vette starts racking up alot of wins, well thats just called being badass.

Re: Want to put a turbo on my 280.

yeah i should have said something about that... the corvette is the only american car that i'll ever like... sure sure it's got a v8 in it... but that was my dream car growing up, so i just can't turn on it and hate it... besides like you said... it's badass...

but one thing about the new c6... LEAF SPRINGS??

Its pullin better numbers at the skidpad then just about anything else out there. Just because it doesn't have "super-high-speed-whiz-bang-certified" stamped into a super polymer casing doesn't mean it can't be good.

You going to start getting pissed about how tires are still round after the last few thousand years?

Broke unless i've got my numbers f**ked up , the best Vette cost in the area of 70-80,000, and I may be wrong but I think theirs 3 American sport car with numbers faster that the vette. The 2004 Ford Shelby Cobra, The Viper SRT10 and the Ford GT40. But let's not leave out the much cheaper by almost $40,000 the Ford Mustang Cobra SVT, very close but not really a sport car.
So unless I'm missing something please post something

2004 Ford Shelby Cobra 2.8 10.6
2004 Viper SRT 10 3.9 11.7
2004 Vette 4.3 12.7
2004 Mustang Cobra SVT 4.6 12.9
and the GT 40 well blow all their doors off I think

Myself I like my Z's and haven't yet been beat by a Vette or Mustang, but I know there's one out there someplace waiting to prove me wrong. As for the other 2, never had the chance to try one.

Lov your tire statment

Yeah those numbers are a little off...top of the line Z06 Vette MSRPs for about $52,000. Even with dealer markup and other assorted gouging, I don't think you would ever pay more than $60,000, absolute you-got-raped max. And since they are much higher production than just about any other sports car, *I've heard*, as I've never really looked into buying one, that you can get one fairly close to MSRP, even base models which start around 40-42,000. They make an ass load of Vettes compared to Vipers, Cobras and just about everything else.

Vipers are truly fast but they also run upwards of $90,000 dollars all things considered. They are listed at $75,000 and since they are so low production they get marked up like a ***********er.

They are making 3000 GT40s. Total. Over about 3 years. They are starting at $150,000. If you have a trust fund, great. For the rest of us, we're screwed.

By Shelby Cobra do you mean the concept car Ford came up with or the Shelby Cobra Series 1 that Shelby himself is making? I don't remember hearing anything about producing the concept car and a Series 1 will cost you $135,000 if you can get one.

The Mustang is a great deal really, it can't handle like a Vette but its got alot of cubes under the hood with a supercharger strapped to them. If you are just running 1/4 miles in a stock class or something then its definately something to consider. Especially since the new 05 Mustang is going to drop the prices on the late 90s Cobras enough that you might be able to buy one without taking too much of a wallet hit.

Really Vettes are one of the best deals on the market. The C5s were a huge leap over the C4s and the first few years of C5 vettes are starting to get down into the low $20,000 range. When the new ones come out and given another year or two, you should be able to get a decent late 90s C5 for $15,000 or so.

These guys apparently got pretty good deals

Good post Broke, I've had 2 Vette's and to be very honest with all I like my Z's alot more. The problem I had with my Vette's were front end alignment and the paint cracked in a few years on both and had to be repainted, but they were faster than a stock Z, but I have a equalizer for the Vette's which puts everything on a level playing field. I'm in the process of putting a VH45DE in one of my Z's.
Just so you guys don't think we race down here go here:

Hey man,
Stay with the 280Z... It's a damn good car.

I have a 72' 240Z With a supercharger that well blow any 280zx out of the park..

My wife has a 76' 280Z turbo and her car has well over 480hp.

Both cars I built in 3 Months, and it was F***ing worth it.

So stick with the 280Z man You'll have a lot of fun in that thing. and not only that... there real easy to work on.
