Re: air fuel controller
eh?
you want to control the fuel/air ratio? the reason you have to upgrade your injectors is because they max out. twisting a knob isn't going to make them inject any more than their maximum. You can certainly increase the pressure, but IIRC, you have to quadruple the pressure for double the fuel. Besides, you still don't want them maxing out, its inefficient. Some mathematics: If we increase from 14psi (where the injectors are maxxing out) to 18psi, we need 129% of the original fuel requirement. if we double volume and quadruple pressure, we have a parabolic graph. Hence, if we increase the fuel requirement to 129%, we now need 166% of the original pressure. Considering we were at around 40psi of fuel pressure to begin with (not too sure of this, can someone verify?) we now need about 66.4psi of fuel pressure. To get this, we're going to have to buy a new primary fuel pump (the stock one just isn't going to cut it), but we're probably going to have to make sure all the fittings etc. are good for that pressure. Not to mention that your injectors are still maxxing out. In the end, you cant expect porsche performance on a volkswagen budget. Pay the extra and you'll be paid in power, efficiency and reliability. As a side note, it's spelt 'that' for fucks sake, not 'dat'. You'll get a whole lot more respect if you speak in english rather than in wigger. -Mike |

Its not too hard to upgrade the fuel injectors to 555ccs, which will cover the fuel needs of anything but the most insanely boosted engines. Nismo units are top quality and fairly cheap too, they can be found complete with O-ring set for about $900 and thats just about as good a price on performance injectors of this quality that you will ever find. But with this comes the need to do an ECU upgrade, which is cheap and easy if you already have an chipped ecu in the car, all you have to do is remove one and put in the other. If you have to order the ECU outright then its more expensive but getting to the point where you need oversized fuel injectors requires an ECU anyway. Like he said, power costs money. Somethings simply can not be gotten around.

Re: air fuel controller
Kinda on topic here... but this pertains to me... should an AFC unit be used when I'm running nitrous?

it couldnt hurt. and i would say it is a wise investment to make sure your not running lean.

Mikeman is right. When you injectors are maxed out, your at the end of your power gains. Install 555 injectors and socket your ECU and put a emulator and laptop and you can run any tune you want. One for nitrous, one for crusing another for low octane gas and another for your honey. Theirs no limit what you can do. This should be your first major upgrade. Gives you the ability to control your timing, A/F about anything you need in your car, plus you don't have to run to a chip burner everytime you change something. You can even set it for different weather conditions, for max power.

sounds a like it might take a little bit more of an investment than most of us are looking for.

Allo gents... WORD TO YOUR MOTHER!
Sorry, Just felt the need to break some cultural barriers. Anyway, My questions consist of... Ok, Zgringo, you said you can put an emulator and laptop in your car? Iv got a laptop I wanna set up in my car, but where do I get the software to connect it to my ECU, much more, how do I actualy connect it to my ECU? Iv got a spare laptop that I dropped the first day I started working on my Z... which sucks... but It still functions, the keyboard and mouse just dont function anymore, but im running diffrent ones ,Im probably gonna open it up and try to fix it, but my point being, I want this one going in the car to do whatever I can with. What are they generaly used for? I want to use mine as a diagnostic system/fuel map system as well as a tool for evil distruction... uhhh... disregaurd the last comment, but anyway, also keep maps and whatnot on it as an extra electronic backup tool. I know its done for hondas by chipping your ECU, then soldering a nokia cable to your chip on the ECU, But where do you get software for nissans, and how much would it cost to chip my Z31? And is it done about the same way? |

Well, If I can put the laptop in, Id like to make it one of My first mods just in preperation. But right now Im doing general maitnance to the car, But in the next month, Ill hope to have headers, Custom exaust, Custom intake, Electric fan, do more research on the 240 throttlebody swap, but prolly do that too, Might go with an underdrive pully, And look for a better MAF, Also, Going to do suspension work, and look into what else I can do for lightning and whatnot. Thats what I should have done in the next month, and hopefully, If someone tells me how, also have the laptop in the car.
Oh, I was going to ask too, Iv always heard, cause Iv never used Nos before, but It will take away about 2500 miles off the life of your engine per time that you use it for the most part. But a friend says, as long as you dont use too much, and have enough fuel in there for it to bond to, your engine will be fine, and another friend says, Nos eats seals and plastic. And that my other friend is a moron. So whats correct? Can you run a nitrous setup that wont hurt your engine at all and still give reasonable boost? |

if you get a nos set-up and it is well designed and well thought out, it will not effect the engine for the most part. if you have the right amount of fuel and your A/F ratio is good you shouldnt run into any problems that wouldnt have already arised from just driving it stock.
i would like more info on this little modulator that is ran by a lap-top. reason, i have a lap-top sitting in my basement that no on uses and i plan on having a well designed and thought out beast. plus, i planned on buying an apexi AFC for like $350-400. if i can do this for the same price or cheaper, it may be worth considering.

DBSS, First lets kill that BS story that Nitrous eats seals and what not. It's plane BS, Nitrous is Nitrogen and oxygen, two of the most common things in our air (outside of smog) In liqiud form is VERY cold and like others have posted if you do it right, in other words F/A mixture most engines stock engines can handle a 100 shot. The VG30 engine has very strong rods and crank and I've run a 200+ shot but wouldn't recommend it unless you know what your doing.
As for the Emulator go to this site. http://www.ztechz.net/ I can't for the life of me figure why people spend so much money on their cars and forget the most important part of the car, it's HEART. It costs, but now you have total control of the most important thing your car has. Go to this site read, learn, ask questions and learn how to master you car. Unless you have someone with a dyno and the ability to burn you a new chip everytime you make a change, your not getting the max out of your car. You have any idea how many times I've blown the doors off something with more engine than me? How's that possible, easy, their not tuned to the fullest potential. I'm a poor loser, and I want the money I've spent to give me it's max |

hey zgringo, i read everything off that site and some more stuff off of a forum and i found out a little info about consult programming but i didnt exactly see what all you need to do to run it or hook it up. is it just a little unit that wires into your ECU and then into your computer transforming data into people understanding. and then you can go through the computer to adjust what needs to be adjusted. please correct me or inform if im on the right or wrong track....im new to this. if you could explain it in laments terms, please do. all the rambling on that forum gets a little confusing to extract useful info out of it.
is this what it is and then there are people that redesign software for the program so you can monitor all the guages and what not right on your PC. http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/faq.htm

K3 you've got it. Resocket your ECU and plug your Pocket ROMilator into in and the computer, install the program for the VG30DE &TT engine, and have a blast.
http://xtronics.com/memory/pktROM.htm I might also add you can learn alot about EPROM's and ECU's for the Z at http://forum.ztechz.net/ |

ok ....so now i got the jist of it but further explain it. you buy a kit, and it splices into your ECU and connects to a USB port on the lap-top. then the system reads the ECU and puts it in human language (as in guages and ratios) on your computer screen. once to that point you can start adjusting timings and air/fuel ratios or whatever you want? can you leave it hooked to the lap-top? will your changes stay once the lap-top is disconnected?
i did a little homework and i came across the greddy e-manage. is this the same thing? i heard this product has a tendency to blow coil-packs. also i was reading on that forum that some guy makes software (including a speedometer, RPM, and alot of other guages) for a computer system like this. so with his software, i would have to download it on to the hard drive and then open it when the computer is hooked to the ECU.
