Trailblazer assist steps vs. splashguards

I need some helpful input on my 2004 GM Chevy Trailblazer LT(NOT an EXT,by the way) factory-mounted black molded plastic assist steps(I call them running boards).I live in central NY state(near Syracuse)where, in the winter months,road salt is HEAVILY applied...My question is: What are the pro's and con's of having these on my new truck? I've heard a little input from both sides on the protection aspect of the assist steps(running boards).I really like the looks of my truck WITHOUT them...Also what is everyone's take on the GM splashguards available in flat and/or contoured styles???The dealer is preparing to put splashguards on it this week, so a few quick responses would be greatly appreciated.Thanx,~~ERUSS44~~

I own a 04TB and installed the four contoured ones myself. I like the look and they seem to line up well to protect the finnish. I live in Chicago (heavy salt). No winter experiace yet. I understand you can not mount the front splash guards with running boards.

I have both the boards and the splash guards (contoured). You can mount both. I'd do the flaps...then if they don't protect enough...get the boards also. I actually prefer the look of both.

I have the running boards on mine & I installed the contoured mud guard on the back.

To me, I would do without the running boards if mine didn't come with them. I never use them, nor has anyone ever had to who entered/exited my vehicle. In the winter time (Chicago...blah!)......when your getting out of your T.B, & you go to step past the running board, you'll end up getting snow/salt/slush on the back of your pants by your ankle. Annoying, yes! But if you step away from the vehicle any farther @ times you could lose your grip & slide away from the vehicle....icey conditions.
On the pro side, they do offer mucho protection from rocks getting kicked up by your front tires. By adding the molded guards on the back, you get more protection & you don't kick up as much stuff on the back of your ride.

I am actually split on it. They look silly when their dirty. After washing, they hold water..not much, but some. They get slippery if wet...really no traction on them. But they save the side of your T.B from rock & debris damage.....catch 22 if you ask me. Mud flaps can save the sides too. I mean really, is the T.B that tall to where you will actually need running boards?

I am also looking to put splashgaurds on my 04 Trailblazer LT, but before I order them I want to make sure I can install the contoured ones on both the front and back of my truck. So will it be possible to do this if I have assist steps?
