Prelude Speaker System

hi, I have a 96 prelude S. My rear speakers were ripped but I got some accord 6.5 in speakers to replace them. Now the back is good, but the front speakers are riped. I need to buy some new ones. I saw on ebay, 6.5 in speakers that provide 700 WATT of power. Would that be fine for my front door speakers or will i f*** up my sound system? Would I have to buy 700 WATT speakers for the back then too? Whats the WATTs on the regular rear and front prelude speakers? If I buy the 700WATT speakers for my front doors, will I need to get anything else? I have the stock prelude radio/cassette setup also, would i need to change that for somethin else? Can you explain the setup, Thanks I really appreciate your help.

Re: Prelude Speaker System

700 watts out of 6.5 is a bunch of BS. You need to spend a pretty good amount of money to get a 12 inch sub that puts out that kind of power. Don't bother with ebay, go through either crutchfield or sounddomain.

skip ebay, alot of speakers though are to deep for the doors, you would have to do some work to get them to fit right. Thats why I would reccomend Boston FX-6H speakers. The H means they are specific for hondas and the shallow speaker depth. They fit like a charm and hit great highs

Re: Prelude Speaker System

OKay, you're confused. Even if there were a such thing as a 700 Watt speaker, it would be completely pointless because you would be running it off the 15 watts of head unit power. You didn't mention a brand, so I doubt that it's any creditable. I would go with a good set of components, like CDT's, MB quartz's or Focal's. Something along those lines, don't buy anything from ebay that isn't something you would buy off of ebay.

Re: Prelude Speaker System

Doesn't matter is crap, don't waste your money. If it were good people would know the brand and be recomending it. I can't say I have ever heard of that brand. Don't get no name stuff, if it were of any value, it wouldn't be no name stuff. You can get them if you really want, but you'll be disappointed

Re: Prelude Speaker System

OKay... here goes. The power of speakers depends more on what it is powered by than how many watts the speaker is. If a speaker is lets say 50 watts RMS(which is nominal power rating, the amout of power it can continuously put out) but you are only powering it by your headunit that puts out 19 watts RMS, the speakers are only playing with 19 watts because thats all their receiving. The prelude, well mine, came with 15 watt speakers... which I blew to hell. They are worthless now. What else do you want to know.

Re: Prelude Speaker System

so, if i want to put more higher power speakers, i should get a new higher power headunit(radio,cd,cassette player) ? also those speakers are 350Watt each. How much are the infiniti speakers? and will they fit my car? also how much are the boston speakers?

Re: Prelude Speaker System

Yes, to put out more power, you need either a more powerful headunit, or an external amp, or both. And though it may claim it, I HIGHLY doubt those speakers put out 350W. I just went to crutchfield.com, and the most powerful speakers they carry make their max power at 250, and those cost over $100 a pair. Trust me, just go to www.crutchfield.com. You can put in the year and model of your car and it will tell you what fits and give you the specs for all the speakers. Plus they give you everything you need to install if for free, and awesome customer service.

a really good deck will give you about 25 watts rms. not that big of deal. rear speakers are pretty much useless, especially w/ an amp. DO NOT amp rear speakers. if your into budget stuff, go w/ infinity. they are not bad for the price.

Re: Prelude Speaker System

Well first off i would like to say, that those speakers on ebay are probably horrible speakers. I know i'm late but i had to say it. Just b/c they say they handle 350Watts a piece doesn't mean anything. The thing in wattage rating that you're really looking for is the RMS rating. That's the power that a speaker can handle continuously without blowing. Now the other rating would be the peak power rating. The speaker can handle what the peak says, but not for long. Normally your RMS is about half of your peak, in the case of the ebay speakers, it's probably about 1/3 of the total power rating. Somebody said that there's no sense in amping rear speakers. That's BS. If you have a good set of rear speakers there's not reason not to amp them if you're trying to get better sound in your car. I had a Kove 6.5" all around in my car and had them running off of a Hart 600 Watt 4-Channel and they sounded amazing. I was extremely happy. The highs in my car were great. I then upgraded the front speakers to an infiniti component set. Needless to say the inside of my car sounded like pure sex. Now i'm done. In conclusion, the ebay speakers were probably garbage, you should so some research on your own to find out what kind of audio equiptment you like, don't listen to other people, listen to the product and there price tags, i have found that i have extremely different taste in my audio equiptment than other people on this site, Now that i have my prelude i'm going with diamond audio or kove audio all the way through, 2 15's in a ported fiberglass box will soon be where my "back seat" is, along with 2 set's of 6x9's, and a component set in the front. I've heard many different brands, but i have found out that everybody has there own taste, find yours and run with it, i just hope your pocket can accomodate for you listening ear.
