99 Malibu Alternator???

Has anyone replaced thier alternator on this car?

I was having a battery light come on and finally one day all the car's gauges stopped working, the turn signals, and everything. Then it died on the road. I had it jumped 3 times to get it home. I charged it overnight and the battery didn't hold the charge. So, I bought a new battery.

Now, the damn battery light is back on, doesn't that mean the alternator is bad? Please help, I'm stressed.

Yes it is your alternator. I had to replace mine about two years ago. Have not had any problems with the new one. So far.

I've replaced mine twice in my 99. But, it could also be the belt tensioner as well. Make sure first.

Come on Homey! It is obvious that something else was killing that alternator. Maybe a weak battery so that the alt. worked overtime - all the time - and could never keep up. Or your starter was bad. I can't see needing 3 alts in that short of time. I always go to AutoZone to have mine checked free of charge. Of course, it could be that you were buying bad alts.!

First 2 came from autozone, thier tester said it was OK, had the second one tested on a waveform at a local machanic that is a friend of mine. It said the alternator was bad. Replaced that Autozone alternator with a Gold Series or something NAPA one. It ran jsut fine for 2-3 months till the other day when the Battery light came on. I did have the battery replaced when I replaced the first alternator. I'm perplexed. I've replaced several GM alternators in my life but this is rediculous. The newest one is still underwarranty and all that. So it's no big deal it jsut sucks because of the inconvience. Oh well it's going back to the shop later today to at least have it retested and replaced.
