Those of you with various front end noises
Front end noises, squeaking. popping rattling, etc. have a couple possible solutions:
1) See service bulletin #01-03-08-002B (4/10/2003): Front Suspension Clunk/Rattle Noise Diagnosis. A lot of dealers don't even know about this and it's a simple fix - retorqe the lower control arms. I went nuts with front end noise problems and the dealer couldn't find the problem. I finally came across this TSB and showed it to them. It solved the problem. 2. (Excerpt from a posting at the Yahoo Auto Groups - Alero website): After a year of tolerating an irritating noise from the front end of my 2001 4 door Alero, I figured it was time to track it down. The dealer offered no help "they all do it - want to drive 3 around the lot and see for yourself?" was the response. I read a service bulletin (which I posted here last year) on torsion bar rubber problem so attempted to lube that with Silicone spray - no change. I believe I have found it - the top of the strut has a rubber washer approx 1" thick. It seems to chafe around the outside of the cup it is sitting in making a noise at low speeds and stopping. If you open the hood and see the center part of the strut and a large threaded rod - look around the outside of that "cup" it is sitting in. Along the top are several small indents in the rubber, visible while looking inside the "cup". Into these indents, I sprayed some Silicone spray(same as used for the door gaskets). Noise has been gone for 3 days now and car sounds like it did off the lot without the constant irritation of a squeek, squak, pop.... Hope this helps someone out there... |
