Re: Interior painting vs trim kit.....

Well,it all depends on your personal style. What are your favorite colors?. Are you going to put neon lights inside? Many factors should affect your decision.

As for the brand of paint,i've heard great things about "Krylon Fusion" for painting your interior.

a white dash will make it hard to drive.it will reflect onto your windsheild to much..try driving around with notebook paper on your dash and see if it will bother you..white trim will look nice but it will also show alot of dirt
i would paint the trim blue

Re: Interior painting vs trim kit.....

In my sig I have a few different things I did that led up to the point I am at. This was all achieved with a combo of dye bombs and auto paint (acyrlic laq) it was tedious but worth while in the end. I work for ford and they came out with a trim line for there car lineup and some for trucks. There was alot to choose from but they only make subtle changes. I prefer dye bombing trims and dashes for a cooler custom look plus you can be artsy about it.

I respect this opinion and am very glad it was mentioned , bright colors DO reflect on the windshield and you should consider mospeed1's advice with the note book very good advice. I have painted my main trim with black and find it gets dusty very quick and I dont like to clean vinyl to often so I carry a wax treated rag to every once in a while dust the dash and trim. I had alot of trouble deciding what colors to use for my car , 1 interior lights are all red , under body LED's are blue , I have Blue/Black theme on the exterior the red interior lights matches the stop lights and some red trim was left (since it is a pontiac) to help place the trim in the array then I used a blue acyrlic laq to match the exterior color on the trims. My project isnt finished yet still gotta airbrush the door pads.

i would just stick to the simple things to paint white, im not a big fan of the whole, any part i can pull out im painting method, your car is really populer so i would check out cardomains.com for a while and look at some dashes, see what you like and dont like. my friend has a prelude that has white ACCENTS and it looks way nice, but i have seen when people take the paint to far and it dosent look good, i always say to stick with two colors, try and find a color to dominate and one to accent, have 90% one color (in my case black) and another 10% your accent color (my case dark blue) im redoing my car all swede so i know how its hard to figure out what should go what color, but i decided all plasic parts and stuff that is hard goes black, eveything fabric and soft goes blue, looks good so far. good luck.

Be creative , make a mess of colors dont be afraid to try something different! If we all use the same trim ideas then we might as well keep our "custom jobs" stock oem. I suggest you try any crazy idea that pops in yer head and test your own reactions to it. I hope your project turns out nice and I hope you have fun with it as well.

Re: Re: Interior painting vs trim kit.....

i understand this is an old thread but what are your opinions on trim kits?

in my opinion, a painted dash would look bad in a SUV. as a result, i am looking into trim kits.

what do you think looks better, aluminum kit or a wood trim kit?

finally, are there any real wood trim kits and is there actual Aluminum in Al trim kits?

thank you for your time

Re: Interior painting vs trim kit.....

Ya trim kits are cool too they look great so long as you dont get too clumsy and yankem off however you are very limited in color selections and what exact pieces you can apply it to. Painting the dash doesnt look bad on SUV's or any other trim on them for that matter infact I find them funner to do than a car cus they usually have alot more trim pieces. If you like the selection of colors or designs that the trim kit packages come with then go for it! Its cool either way to me.

Re: Interior painting vs trim kit.....

I agree with mark, that an SUV wont look bad. Its really up to what you do with it. I mean, you could paint it all flat black, or gray, or neon green, or orange. Also remember it doesnt have to be flashy to look nice. When I got my car, all the upholstery was brown, and the dash was charcoal gray. It was nice looking for a stock gramma car, but not interesting enough for me. One day I upholstered a speaker grille cover in black velour... That began a pattern for me. I now have a very sophisticated brown and black theme. You dont have to go nuts with neon colors to get a nice effect. In my sig is a url to all the pics of my car. If you decide to take a look at that, remember nothing in my car was black when I got it... all brown and boring. I get a lot of compliments, but if you didnt know any better almost everything in the car appears stock.
