Unhappy high idle

i have a 95 tsi, and it idles way to high. it's supposed to idel close to 1,000 rpms, but its reading 1,500 to 2,000 rpms when idle. this only happens when i'm in park. when i put it in drive or reverse the rpms go back to normal. does anyone know what is causing it to idle so high?

Re: high idle

I think its supposed to idle kind of high when you turn on the engine after a significant amount of time leaving it off...mine idles around 1200 rpm when turning the engine on for the first time before letting it "warm up"

Re: high idle

I have that problem... mine is from the seals on each side of the TB plate/butterfly and since they are worn it leaks boost and has affected its idle speed. I got new seals on the way!!!!

Re: high idle

Sometimes just adjusting the throttle cable does the trick.

Re: high idle

yea adjust the cabkle when the car has heated up. once the cars hot turn it off and have somebody sit in the car and press the gas to the floor. while they hold the gas down you move the throttle cable bracket until the throttle is wide open. tighten down the bracket and then you should be good.

Re: high idle

try checking for a vacuum leak. i had to replace a vacuum hose one time and i just left the car running and when i pulled off the hose, the car rev'd up a little bit and stayed there for awhile and came down really slow. do a vacuum test, you might have a faulty/disconnected hose.

Yep, thats what i had, my idle surge is from 1000rpm to 1500rpm, and adjusting the BISS did nothing, so i check for a vacuum leak, and i found 2 hoses coming out of the thermostat, going into the throttle body/ISC. I plugged them up for now, and i'm replacing the hoses tomorrow. I hope that makes it all good.

I first adjusted the BISS, but that did nothing, because of my vacuum leak, but the idle surge worse now, and my idle is higher, so i'll have to readjust it after the new hoses are in. BTW, can i just screw in and out the BISS, or do i really have to go and find all those plugs and ground them??
