Front Wheel Squeak
I have a 2000 Grand Prix with 45000 miles, and it is making a squeaking noise. This noise is coming fron the left front and is noticeable at low speeds, especially if I am driving along side a highway center divider.
When I apply the brakes or just slightly pull the steering wheel to the right, the noise is gone. I am guessing this is the front wheel bearing. I am checking the brakes tonight, but from what I can tell, the squeel tab isn't anywhere near the rotor yet. If it is the bearing, how much ofa chore is it and will I need to replace the entire hub or just the bearing/race package? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Front Wheel Squeak
it sounds like a hub bearing to me. They are not that difficult to replace, and it is an assembly, not a bearing/race. One word of caution, DO NOT use an impact to put the hub nut back on. The vibration can crack the abs sensor built into the hub, and cause it to fail.

Re: Front Wheel Squeak
Thanks richtazz for the reply. I checked the brakes last night and they still have some life left on them. It looks like I will be replacing the bearing this week.
