efe connector....

what is the early fuel evaporation heater connector and what does it connect to? in the hunt to figure out as to what is going on with my geo, i have noticed that this particular piece likes to start ticking when the engine warms up, which is where i am having a problem with sputtering and dying. as far as i can tell, this one seems to be consistant with my running problem. or so i hope. i am chasing down all possible leads in the quest to solve this problem.

Umm, in my years with these cars, i've never heard of that part. Usually, when a car ticks, it's the valve lifters, which means the head isn't gettnig enough oil(too thin of oil, or bad oil pump). If you have a problem with the car sputtering, always do the usual(as I tell everyone) tune-up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor. You wouldn't believe how many problems a bad cap and rotor can cause. If it's not the head ticking, please, try to locate the tick, and send me a picture of this mystery part.

i'm not good at all posting pictures on the internet. it is on the back side of the 1.3 on the pass. side. it is connected to the efe heater that is located right under the throttle plate. from what i understand, this unit puts a slight heat to the fuel/air mixture just before it enters the intake manifold. the efe heater itself are some wires strung across the intake manifold and you can't get to them without taking off the throttle body itself. i am still trying to research this and see if it can cause the engine to cut out or sputter when the engine gets hot. also, i have found that there is another tsb concerning this vehicle. it involves the replacement of the injector harness itself. it is listed as bulletin #99-06-04-017. it was put out on may 1999. it lists problems such as hesitation, stumble, possible stalling and etc. the bulletin says that the harness terminals can make poor contact with the injector terminals. there is a kit that covers this. what may at question is whether this fixes the problem that we are hearing about out there AND whether this can be covered by warranty work.. the answer to that might be found at lemon-aid.com. they cover lemon cars and how to get service depts. to cover work that should have been done.

Ahhh, emission control crap in the new 1.3's. Sounds like you're talkin about the throttle postition sensor. That, or the MAP sensor. Either one would cause that problem. Is the "failing" part attached to the manifold, firewall, or throttle body?
