S-10 not starting after long storage
Have a 1988 S-10 that had a leaky gas tank. Truck sat for 3 years without fuel in gas tank. I have sealed gas tank, but now can not get fuel to engine, checked fuel filter and fuses. Engine will run when fuel or starting fluid is put into throttle body. Only have about 5 gallons of fuel in tank. Does fuel pump require priming or more fuel in tank?

Re: S-10 not starting after long storage
1.) Did you replace the filter?
2.) How long did you allow it to crank? 3.)Why would someone store a truck with an empty tank? 4.) Do you hear the pump prime when you click the key to ON, "not start" You should hear it humm for 2 seconds and then shut off. |

I disconnected filter and cranked engine for up to 30 seconds. No fuel was in the filter after having cranked engine for 30 seconds over several days. Have a new battery installed. Gas tank had a leak, so truck was not driven. I can hear what sounds like a solenoid under the hood, but no fuel pump. Maybe fuel pump went bad? |

Yep, sounds like the fuel pump. You shoulda just dropped the tank and bought a new one or an aftermarket that way, you more than likely would have found that the pump might have been bad.

Re: S-10 not starting after long storage
The tank failure has occured since it was stored dry as a bone.
You always store a vehicle with a full tank of fuel so the tank pump components are not exposed to air and corrosion. Chances are it is rusted and seized. |
