Re: Erg
Hey 97 silverbullet - you like political expressions?
Well how about this? The word "politics" is derived from the two latin words; 'poli' meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'BLOODSUCKERS' |

Re: Erg
Take the politics to the off topic area of AF guys. Democrat vs Republican crap really doesnt have anything to do with EGR's.
Back on topic...does the Aurora have a digital EGR?

Re: Erg
When you asked I just assumed you meant how it communicated. Then I found this this page: http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/dec97/egr.htm
I can deduce we either have digital or linear egr valves from a lack of vacuum connections. I thought it was supposed to be a solenoid on top (ie: digital) from what a mechanic told me one time, but it could be a motor too. Anybody know either way for sure? Oh, and for the original question, when my EGR valve stuck open, my car would usually die at idle. It didn't really hesitate- applying throttle would make the EGR valve be more or less back in the correct position, so all the troubles went away. Well, except the budget troubles buying a new one of those damn things... |

Re: Erg
The EGR is a stepper motor with a linear potentiometer for feedback to the PCM.
The PCM sends out pulses for incremental movement of the pintel, either way, and the linear potentiometer sends back a voltage divided of the 5V ref. GuMan |

Re: Erg
All you need is a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet to take it off, then if you have access to a compressor, blow the carbon out first dry, Then use the cleaner, then blow it out again. Mine ran fine when I started it, clumsy idle is all gone. Also, have some high temp sealant, hi tak, or something with you, especially if your gasket comes apart.
