License Plate Modification

I got a 98+ front bumper for 94 LS. i dont want to put the license plate in the normal spot where it suppose to go to on the front bumper. I have gotten a ticket for not having one in front before. so here my questions. is it illegal to modify teh license plate (meaning that i cut, bent it to a smaller size so that it will fit where i want it to fit). i custom fabricated a bracket to hold the license plate in the bumper vent, u know where the flog goes. hard to explain but i would put up some pix to show u guy but i dont know how to. u think i will get a ticket for doing this? i live in cali by the way.

one more thing, anyone have any suggestions to what to use to cover up the stock license plate screw hole?

Yes you will get a ticket for doing that. A friend of a friend cut the top and bottom off of his plate and has gotten a few tickets. The cops will flip out if they can't tell what state your from.

be careful in cali, you should try to get your teg registered in arizona. i work in cal 7 months and then in yuma for 5 months. all my cars are registered in in az, it's a lot cheaper than up here and all you need is an address down there--even a po box will work.

I didnt cut off the California part off, just the top white part. let me say again, its only the front license plate and not the back. Is that is illegal? and if it is, FUK the cop then!!!!

Re: License Plate Modification

I still think it's an illegal modifed plate. I guess take your chances but don't be surprised or pissed if you get a ticket because of it.

yes, any mod that changes the appearence of the license plate is illegal. painting, cut & trimming, or covers will get the attention of cops, then they look for other illegal mods you have, and harrass you for those.

relocating the plate is legal as long as its still somewhere on the bumpers and is visible.

i have a blue transparent plate cover on the front which is illegal, even the clear covers are illegal because they are said to "change the reflection pattern."

license plate mod.

the new thing to do is to relocate the license plate to the far right of your front bumper with a license plate relocator. you can find this on ebay for around 20 bucks or at your local motorsports store for $39.99 plus tax. that's what i did for my rsx after numerous no license plate tickets.

I was cruising the web for a bracket myself to mount on the underside of my air dam and found a company called T&A Performance Specialties. They sell aluminum brackets for the front of Integras and a bunch of other cars. You may want to check them out. Website is tandaperformance.com. Good luck!!
