Short-Throw shifter question

I've got a question for those of you who have done the short-throw shifter conversion.

It appears that there are:

1) STI "short-throw shifter KIT" (part #c1010fa001), which includes the whole shifter assembly with stay for, bracket, shift lever, linkage connector, shift rod...etc.

and also

2) just the shift lever--from several after market compaines.

Anyone with experiences with these?? Any recommendations??
Is #2 just a "short" shift lever, and actually NOT a true "short-throw" shifter??

thanks guys

Re: Short-Throw shifter question

The STi system is the way to go. It leaves the shifter at the same height, which is considerably more comfortable (for me, at least) and more consistent. After market sts tend to merely change the pivot point or shorten the lever. Both variations on the usual aftermarket method tend to make certain gear positions shorter than others and have various other minor issues. I really liked the aftermarket sts on a friend's car until I got mine with the STi sts. The STi is better, IMO, but an aftermarket one may be cheaper and may still meet your needs.

Short version: STi is better, but aftermarket ones aren't horrible.
