Question Anyone know where I can get a 944 kit?

Hey, I've got another question on another kit. Does anyone make any Porsche 944 kits? And if so, is there a store online I can get one from?

While I can't help you on finding 944 kits, since many of them are discontinued, I can give you a quick summary of 944 kits released in the past. Try eBay or local swap meet to find them.

[Hasegawa]
944 Turbo - complete engine details, revised interior on 1987+ cars. The best of all.
944 Turbo Racing - almost the same as the street version, but the interior details are new.

[Italeri/Testor]
944S - late version (revised interior), SOHC engine is inaccurate for the S (get Hasegawa's 968), less pronounced euro style bumpers.
944Turbo - decent SOHC turbo engine.
944 Cabriolet - complete with engine details

Early 944 had interiors carried over from the 924, which can be built by using Monogram or LS 924 kit. Also, the U.S. style bumpers can be taken from Monogram's 924.

[Italeri/Testor]

What about wheels in Italieri kit? Are they awful as usually?

Thanks for the info. Now if I could only find one of those kits. I checked ebay and there aren't any 944 kits up for auction at the moment. I'll probably just keep looking wherever I can.

As for the wheels, yeah, the Italeri kit is below average, and you have to take your shoes off to give four thumbs down on their tires as usual. There are very few reasons to choose Italeri, and I think it's up to which model of 944 a modeler's going to make.

Early 944 - Italeri 944S + Monogram 924 or LS 924 interior
944 base - Italeri 944S
944S - Italeri 944S + Hasegawa 968 engine + extra work
944 Turbo - Hasegawa
944S2 Hasegawa + 968 engine + some extra work

As I mentioned before, Monogram 928 bumpers can be fitted to the US 944. Also, late 944 Turbo and S2 had different wheels, and the Fujimi 928 kit might be useful, but I can't recall which one off hand.

I just got a Hasegawa 944 turbo racing, and the decals look a little yellowed. Are the number decals on the side supposed to be pure white or a little off-white?

Do any variant decal sets for the 944 turbo racing exist?
