what kind of amp do i need

alright, i will soon have two 10" diamond audio subs running 1500w rms @ 4 ohms, what wattage amp do i need for these monsters? i know it has to be mono but do i have to run it at 4 ohms? what happens if i run it at 2 ohms? please help, im clueless when it comes to amp's. and does mtx make good amps or should i just stay away from them?

I assume these subs are DVC (dual voice coil) so if you run them parallel they will be running a combined 4 OHM load. im not sure if you mean that each sub will handle 1500 RMS or both of them combined will handle 1500 RMS. if its the first you want an amp rated at 3000 watts RMS @ 4 OHMS to push both of them. if its the second then you want a 1500 watt RMS @ 4 OHMS amp. FYI just to help you out, the impedence of the amp (e.g. 2 OHM, 4 OHM) is based on the empedence of the subs. since your subs will have an impedence of 4 ohms if run parallel, your amp will be running at 4 OHMS, nothing more, nothing less. hope this helped and i didnt confuse you more.

sorry i dont really know much about MTX so i cant tell you if they are good or not

Re: what kind of amp do i need

what exactly are the subs single or duel voice coil ohms? and the above is wrong.

ok cody, lets go to speaker school. if you run a 4 OHM dual voice coil sub parallel, then it has an impedence of 2 OHMS. therefore if he is running these subs bridged, the total impedence will be 4 OHMS because he has 2 of them. so no i was not wrong. and if you think something is wrong in what i said then you should at least be able to explain what it is and why.

that's only true if he wired in series/parallel, parallel/parallel would yield 1ohm, and you're also assuming each speaker is dual 4ohm, if they're dual 2ohm or single 4ohm then that changes everything.

Re: what kind of amp do i need

it doesn't necesarrily have to be mono could run a 2 or 4 channel monoblock would probably be the best. What exactly are the subs are they duel or single voice coil subs and what is there impendence. If they WERE duel 4 ohms you could run them parallel parallel to make the 1 ohm load (need one ohm stable amp) and hereby supply more power to the subs, just because the subs may be 4 ohm coils doesn't mean your amp has to run at 4 ohms as long as its stable for the load your giving it.

Re: what kind of amp do i need

and running the subs at 4 ohms and trying to get 3000 rms is a rediculous idea, running a 1 ohm amp say 1500rms@ 1 ohm would be MUCH cheaper than buying a 1500 rms@ 4 ohm (would be huge), why would you want to run the subs at 4 ohms? its rediculous when you can supply more power with less ohms.

OK... So back to getting something accomplished, You can run an amp at any load (proveded its stable to that load) What we first need to know is if they are single voice coil or duel voice coil before we can make any REAL recomendations on an amp because the subs do dictate the load that your amp will see as well as the way it is wired. It will be easier and cheaper to get the amp running at a lower ohmage (this will supply more power than it would at say 4 ohms). What are the impendence of the subs? What is the RMS rating for each sub or each coil?

mono means 1 channel, there's no such thing as a 2 or 4 channel monoblock because that goes against the definition of a "monoblock"

I don't know where you keep coming up with this....why would a 1500x1 @ 4ohm amp be any larger or more expensive than a 1500x1 @ 1ohm amp? All it does is step up the voltage twice as high, and it only has to support half as much current....hell it could actually be smaller because the heatsink wouldn't need to be as large.

Re: what kind of amp do i need

techincally you would need two 1500 rms amps at 2ohms. I know I am going to get shot for this, but I am going to recommend an amp that is not popular at all.
