Bring Back the 3000Gt?

What would you guys think if Mitsubishi Brought back the 3000gt? We all know what Nissan has done with their Z's and it seems as if they have earned quite a large profit, seeings how its hard to take a drive longer than 10 mins and not see one. Also there are rumors that Toyota is bringing back the Supra, maybe even releasing it under Lexus (to justify the price tag). So why not just hop on the bandwagon and bring our beautiful cars back, with the same, maybe better perfomance and styling. (If thats possible ). Please feel free to input, there is also a poll.

Re:

I think It'd be cool to bring back the 3K... but then again they'd prolly botch up the styling and it'd be ugly.

It'd also do two other things, one reduce the uniqueness of the cars, and also probbly reduce the value.... Then again it could have the reverse efect as not everyone could afford a new one and would suddenly all want an original. It would be nice to have a true Performance sports coupe from Mitsu, As nice of a little car the Evo is it lacks the coolness of a sleek car like a 3s.... and the eclipse is a potato.

If they got the styling right I think It'd be awesome, I'm not really to worried about them mangaing to get any power.... Those Evos can be pretty quick

Re: Bring Back the 3000Gt?

Don't bring it back...look how bad the new Pontiac GTO looks, it's like a Grand Prix on steriods.

Not to mention, in my opinion one need not look further than the 3rd gen eclipses or the evos to realize Mitsu has lost its creativity as far as styling is concerned.
I wouldn't want them to ruin the 3S's by attempting to bring them back to make a profit. Not to mention the reason they stopped making them was the high price tag and lack of profit in comparison to their competition.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Sorry but I also agree...let the 3k rest in peace. Great car and it had it's time around. Reviving cars is not what great cars should need. I love our cars but having more of them around is not what I want. I fell in love with the car because of the rarity, the body style, and because it seems like a great overall car for a sports car. I consider them pretty good for gas mileage compared to others, great handling, and it's all about the AWD.

The car would not be the same, more expensive, and sales would once again kill it off. It's too expensive brand new and I believe that killed it off in the first place.

Mitsu isn't going out of business. They're one of the largest companies in the world. Its possible they could get out of the car market (which is important) but they rival GM in overall size.

They won't come out with the 3K again. Anything they do will only be a shell of its former glory.

I absolutely love my 3000GT and the thought of the option of being able to purchase a brand new one just off the line is thrilling, but then I wake up and realize that my yearly sallary is no where near what a new 3000 GT would cost. So, unless I suddenly come up with an excessive extra amount of money that is burning a hole in my pocket, I'll stick with my '95. Besides I already see entirely too many of them driving around as it is (I live near the Manheim Auto Auction).

Yah, I mean a lot of people can't really afford a brand new vr4 off the line and i don't think it's as a popular because of it is an imported twin turbo...Generally, you think of the people in their teens and 20s actually wanting to drive a vr4 over a vette or any other domestic car around that price. I know some of u are up there in age but it seems more like the people in the older age group would prefer bmws, porshes, and vettes over the car...although they don't know what they're missing.

On another note, we already do rival 350zs if u are talking about a race...unless u were meaning in sales.

Re: Bring Back the 3000Gt?

They need to bring it back, just not right now. from 91-99 was the era of big plush sports cars, now is the era of tiny, cheap, and efficient turbo 4-cylinder sport compacts.

It's like fashion, it will cycle around and people will want once again to describe their car as "powerful" not "zippy" Then it will be a welcomed revival, instead of a reopened wound

Re: Bring Back the 3000Gt?

Dodge and Mitsubishi should do like a.. one year thing. Like in 2010 they should just bring back the stealth and the 3000gt just one year, and make it the badass car on the market .. stock. The would be kinda cool, and dont forget the stealth!

Wow. im suprised a lot of you guys don't think they should bring it back. I guess it would sort of destroy the uniqueness of our cars. That would be nice if they brought it back for a year or in a while when performance was number one on everyone's list.

yeah right now it's gas mileage and a twin turbo V6 that must be filled with premium isn't exactly hitting that demographic

I dunno...
the vr4 got 18 city and 24 highway.
The Evo 8 gets 18 city and 26 highway.
The Sti got 18 city and 24 highway.
The CTS-V is getting 16 city and 25 highway currently.
The 300-C is getting 17 city and 25 highway.

All based off of MSN.com

Basically, the small efficient 4 cylinders aren't doing any better at gas mileage than the twin-turbo v6's, or the High performance V8's. And If they were, and Demographics were the case, either of those last prolly wouldn't be on the market.
